Moving CS6 from old Mac to newer Mac, serial # invalid

Community Beginner ,

Hi can anyone help? I have a valid serial number for the CS6 suite that is registered...in fact the serial # shows as a purchase in my order history. My macbook pro is on its last legs and I attempted to transfer the CS6 suite from the dying macbook pro to my other macbook pro. Everything came across however when trying to use Illustrator, Photoshop, Indesign...etc. I am asked to enter my serial but it says it is invalid. I am typing it in correctly.

I don't have the suite running on any other computers....I have only ever had it on one computer.  It is a legit purchase. Why am I unable to move my purchased software to a newer laptop? I should not be getting this error and I should not have to purchase a new copy. I don't want to deactivate it on my dying computer in case it still gives that error on my newer computer. That would leave me without the suite on either computer. Any advice would be appreciated.

You may have just gone to a version of macOS too new to run your ancient Creative Suite. (If you want to keep running antique apps, you often need to have antique hardware to run antique systems too; they all go as a package). What macOS version are you trying to go with?

Hi thanks for the response. Both my dying macbook pro with cs6 and the macbook pro I want to move the suite to are on 10.11.6 el capitan. CS6 has always worked flawlessly for me on 10.11.6.  So I can't see the issue there.

Ok, that's good news at least (this must be still a pretty old macBook, as current models won't run old systems...)

So, one thing to look at: is it asking you for a "qualifying product" as part of the install? If so, you are using an upgrade license and need the older license.

Otherwise... where and when did you buy CS6? There are an alarming number of fakes, some of which have been recently discovered and blocked.

Migrating files from one machine to another doesn't work.  You need to run the installation routine.

  1. Uninstall everything.
  2. Use the Adobe Cleaner tool below to wipe old program files off your system.

  3. Use your original disks or downloads to properly install CS6.

Good luck!
