Problem with Creative Cloud Desktop app since update to Windows 8.1

Hi, I have updated my desktop and laptop to Windows 8.1 over the past day, and have noticed a problem with the Creative Cloud Desktop app.

Some menu items when I right-click on either the CC system tray icon, or click on the Settings menu icon in the app interface itself do not show.  I've included a screenshot of the problem.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the desktop app, but this has not worked.  Any ideas?

If you update to the current version of the Creative Cloud desktop application it should allow you to resolve this difficulty.  For more information please see Creative Cloud desktop has missing text in Windows 8.1 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/creative-cloud-desktop-missing-text.html.

Why would they need to download your trial versions of software rather than the software they are paying for? Thats being a bit shill.

Here is the correct link for direct downloads which can be accessed via your creative cloud browser:

No, sorry, that does not give you the direct links for CC.  Those all require and launch the Desktop App in order to download the Creative Cloud tools.

What we posted provides links directly to the original CC installers residing on Adobe's servers, without needing the download/app manager...  They are not "our" trial versions.

So why?  Because that's exactly what Ric asked for, and they can be helpful in a case like this.

Just adding my voice to the mob here. Same problem as most--Windows 8.1 with blank menus and text not appearing in on buttons. (Nvidia 460 graphics card running the latest driver, 331.65.)

I've encountered another issue since following the suggestions in this thread. After uninstalling and reinstalling the CC Desktop app, none of the 12 installed programs show up as installed from within the app, only Extendscript Toolkit CC.

I went ahead and clicked Install for Photoshop CC anyway, and instead of just recognizing it was installed, it downloaded and installed it again. No way I'm doing that for the other 11 programs.

I'm also getting dialog boxes poping up, but no way to tell what they're saying, since there's no text. I have to kill CC Desktop through the Task Manager to get the application to close.

As usual, these are small issues, since the programs work on thier own, but they're a handful more small issues to add to the pile that I have to deal with on a semi-regular basis since moving to the Creative Cloud. I see no reason contact support, as they've been close to useless in the past and I don't have time to deal with their elementary suggestions.

This is how customers start to slowly slip away, when it's easier to seek out alternatives than spend the time fixing things. I'll be keeping this in mind when my CC renewal time comes around.

I am with you regarding renewal of my subscription.  I tend to think Adobe know certain products are good and they don't seem to worry too much as we keep paying them.

Rather than keep coming up with lame things to try like use a different browser (that's what they advised me to do) maybe they should be looking closer into the problem, How long are they going to keep blaming the user for not installing correctly or using the wrong browser or OS. If they can't provide a reliable product then give us a discount on the CC subscription. Failing that give us a proper contact for support questions.

ProDesignTools, thanks for the links, they are now saying Access Denied. Looks like Adobe decided to stop direct links to the files. That means they must have fixed the problem. Oh wait... they haven't!

Well to update my previous issues, the fix posted here http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/unable-login-creative-cloud-248.html has fixed my work install - PC, Win 7. Anyone know if it fixes Win 8.1?

Badgadan, this does not fix the text issues but it may help people download the software. As I had no text I couldn't see the message saying I'd be signed out. After installing this I am able to log in, view software to download. However my menus are still missing text but the core functionality is working.

The only good point about this for me is that I had already downloaded all the apps a few months ago to make it easier to install in the future.

In fact, the CC direct links we posted all still work fine – just take a moment to follow the essential download instructions on that page, otherwise you'll get the exact message you described...

Hopefully that will take care of it for you.  As Cindo noted, using this technique you can copy/save/burn/backup the offline CC installers for future use if/when you want or need to!

I'm afraid that I have to add my voice to the maddening crowd after my sixth attempt to resolve this same problem, which seems to have appeared since the update to Windows 8.1 Build 9600 (ie Uninstall using Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool, Restart, Reinstall, Curse, and Repeat), despite all Adobe's claims that CC is fully 8.1 tested and compatible.

Deleting the OPM.db file has had zero benefit, and Adobe has, meanwhile, plainly given up sending in the sacrificial goats to reply on this forum.  However annoying it is, I can tolerate the Creative Cloud App drop down menus being incomplete, but the problem also appears to be making my Photoshop hang on opening, usually at the 'Opening Panels' stage, which is totally unacceptable.  That said, Lightroom and Bridge-64 haven't been affected at all, so who knows?

I'm running Windows 8.1 64-bit Build 9600, with an NVidia GeForce GTX 970 card using driver version 331.65, and 16GB RAM.  Can’t think what other specs are relevant for now; but either way, Battlefield 4 runs splendidly on such an arrangement, which many of you may think an irrelevant observation, but otherwise serves to prove that at least one company knows how to make high performance software work with Windows 8.1 - and they don't try to charge me a monthly subscription for the honour either.  What a great concept!  Interestingly, I don't have this same problem on my Macbook Air, running OS X Mavericks - another very recent OS update.

Adobe, please get a grip and fix this before we all get together for our increasingly likely class action against you for breach of faith, contract or whatever else we can think of.  I'm personally feeling psychologically scarred by this whole episode.

Hurrah! Finally an update that fixes the missing menu items and broken dialogue boxes is now available.

However - the update might still be difficult for some to actually install - I just ran an earlier downloaded creative cloud setup prog "CreativeCloudSet-Up.exe" and it installed the latest version (I guess it connects to the Adobe servers and downloads the latest version?).

WHy oh why couldn't Adobe at least acknowledge that they were working on the problem and save all the heartache and very angry customers here on the forums in several threads? Seems pretty stupid to me and something that's reasonably easy to manage by talking to us!

Yes, looks like the update that fixes this problem is now available (version 2.2.1.260) – and you should automatically be prompted to download it when you start the CC Desktop App.

Note: If for some reason you can't, and want to try to download and apply the patch manually, here are the links for Windows & Mac:

http://trials3.adobe.com/AdobeProducts/KCCC/1/win32/ACCCx2_2_1_260.zip

http://trials3.adobe.com/AdobeProducts/KCCC/1/osx10/ACCCx2_2_1_260.dmg

(However, this approach should only be used as a last resort or by advanced users.)

Mine did not auto-update, and amusingly instead of doing that it locked up with the 1cmx1cm window, AND a miniature copy of my Windows 8.1 Start Menu! (This isn't a redraw hole or something - my Start menu is much larger, pixel-for-pixel, than that).  Heaven knows what this awful application is trying to do if it can end up doing that!

It didn't recover from this state but a new install has fixed this and the missing text.  Although (trivially) I noticed that the "Gaming SDK 1.3" icon is now missing from the Apps list.

Right – that's another way to do it, if the auto-update doesn't work...

1. Uninstall (just) the "Adobe Creative Cloud" app from your computer using your operating system's control panel.

2. Reboot your machine.

3. Install a fresh (new/updated) copy: http://creative.adobe.com/products/creative-cloud

Hi Peter,

Could you try uninstalling and reinstalling the Creative Cloud app?

There is an uninstaller for it in the typical location

Control Panel > Programs & Features

After that, just run reinstall from https://creative.adobe.com/products

Please let us know if you're still having problems,

- Dave

I have the very same screenshot on my machine. The Creative Cloud crash generates windows 8.1 event-log messages like below:

The program Creative Cloud.exe version 2.1.2.232 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Action Center control panel.

My CC has updated but this problem persists. I am on

windows 8.1

Acer Aspire E1-571

Intel HD Graphics 4000

First my account gets hacked

Then the cloud goes down

Now I cant access the cc app

This is very very poor. I have previously requested a refund for the protracted downtime and been ignored.

1.  quit the app (from the task bar) and relaunch.  if that fails:

2.  Remove the OPM.db file and relogin into the Creative Cloud desktop application using the Adobe ID tied to your subscription.

Mac OS: You can locate the OPM.db file in the \User\<user name>\Library\Application Support\Adobe\OOBE folder. To access the hidden user Library folder, see Access hidden user library files | Mac OS 10.7 Lion.

Windows: You can locate the OPM.db file in the \Users\<user name>\AppData\Local\Adobe\OOBE folder.  To view the hidden AppData folder, see Show hidden files, folders, filename extensions | Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7.

I don't know why it's not working for me. I've done everything in this forum.

I have Win 7. When I launch Muse it request me to update. I run the update and as it looks like it's going to finish it just closes the application.I guess it's not possible without the CC app.

Very fustrating.

Mjkoper are you facing difficulties applying the Muse update?  I would highly recommend starting a new discussion as the issue discussed in this current discussion was resolved with an update on November 8, 2013.

Actually it's both. I can't update MUSE and my desktop app is blank. I'm assuming once the app is fixed I can update the rest.
