PSE 2018 Install on Case-Sensitive MacOS (High Sierra 10.13.6)

THE PROBLEM:

After not finding any warnings about the Mac-compatible Photoshop Elements 2018 on DVD, I just ran into a virtual brick wall of it *not* being compatible with my case-sensitive Mac.  (There are no such warnings on the package, and it specifically lists Mac OS 10.13 as a "compatible" system.)  Seeing as how this is the current version of the Mac OS and I've never before had reason to mistrust the list of compatible operating systems on a product package, I am discovering this serious limitation of the software (or perhaps just its installer) for the first time while needing this software very quickly.  Additional monkey wrenches in the gears are the facts that I do not currently have the funds to buy yet another copy and also need the software to reside on my MacBook Pro, NOT in the cloud.

THE QUESTION:

Does anyone have any ideas on a workaround that 1) does not require a second purchase of the same software, 2) does not require a total reformatting of a perfectly good computer that already has many other apps happily installed, and 3) does not require me to use software that will only work when I am connected to the Internet?

you have to create a case insensitive drive and install on that drive.  there is no work-around.

I have just come across this and I think that somebody at Adobe needs to take a good look at themselves.

I have a brand new Mac which is set up in the manner in which it arrived. That is, default. I try to install Photoshop Elements via an installer downloaded from Adobe and I get the above error.

It would appear that the answer given above is also correct. This means that, in order to accommodate Photoshop Elements, I must rebuild my Mac. Now, I am perfectly capable of doing this, however I really am not inclined to. This, I propose an alternative solution, and that is to seek out an alternative product.

How utterly absurd! How can consumer-grade software not be compatible with a box-fresh Mac? What on Earth are Adobe's product management people thinking?
