As a young woman in high school in 2006 I first encountered photoshop in Gabe Lawson's class. He had mac computers, DSLR cameras, the Adobe Creative Suite, and just the right amount of enthusiasm. Learning to take pictures had never been so easy in the history of photography, and making them look good had never worked so well. Within 3 or 4 years I was earning an income as an assistant photographer, working my way up to $125 an hour. My knowledge of Adobe products helped me be a great assistant, and made my mistakes look like art. I've never questioned budgeting for a copy of the latest edition of Photoshop. I've since moved on to different work, but I still take pictures and would love to edit them. I've been paying for the damn creative cloud photoshop app for two years but since it slows down my computer with malware I can't sign to CC, update the app and get a photo open fast enough to remember what I'm doing since when I love to edit photos is stoned late at night. I tried my best to salvage this relationship, but there's just no easy access to Photoshop any more it seems. I updated my computer and tried to pick through the random files that adobe has so generously installed all over my hard drive, to attempt to be able to use the program I've invested $300 in. But alas, my computer just wouldn't speed up until all adobe related products and names including such were removed from every cache, utilities folder, download history, and applications sub folders. Now the 2012 Macbook Pro is rocking it's champion status again after two years of getting cussed at. I just completed cancelling my Adobe subscription, and I feel lighter but cheated. What are my options? What will these fingers do without the well known shortcuts and filters of yesteryear? Why must incredible tools turn to thorns and dust?
