I'm a student using PhotoShop for a class.

Is it possible for me to only purchase the Creative Cloud Suite for a short while and then cancel after 4 months?

You can cancel anytime, though you might incur a penalty of one half the remaining cost of the annual subscription, particularly if you are beyond the period allowed for early cancellation (I believe 14 days after start of the plan).  Had you purchased a month to month subscription, at 1.5 times the cost of a standard subscription, then you could cancel anytime without penalty.  If you happen to have the student plan, which costs far less than the standard plan, that is only available as an annual plan.

Whatever you do... read the small print! So many folks get surprised by cancellation fees (not just when it comes to Adobe) because they didn't read the small print. You're basically signing a contract when you sign up for a Creative Cloud subscription, so just be sure you know what it says
