Transfer CS4 license between users.

I own a CS4 Master Collection and I want to transfer the license to another user.

I do not have an active account at the moment. We've been users for years but stopped a few years ago as we didn't require it anymore. The fact that I don't have an active account has been a roadblock with the chatbot. I saw that some others have made headway doing this.

I'm afraid not.

The activation process for CS5.5 upgrade is contingent upon the qualifying product being recognized.  Since CS4 is end of life, this will go nowhere.  Other users have tried & failed to activate their CS5 upgrades for the same reason.

If you had purchased a full-scale CS5, you could potentially activate it, assuming your computer is compatible, and you have remaining activations available.

it's actually irrelevant because no one can activate cs4 anymore.  ie, it doesn't matter what you do, new cs4 installs will only work for 30 days on any one computer without significant effort to restore the 30 day trial period.

I'm actually transferring CS4 and an upgrade CS5.5. So that should work then, yeah? If they upgrade from CS4 to CS5.5?

And thank you for this info! Much appreciated!

But also, I don't have an active plan and can't figure how to get a case number so that I can get this transfer going. I keep ending up in a culdesac where the chatbot says it can't go any further with me because I don't have an active plan.

i actually don't know that.  ie, when trying to activate cs5.5 update, there will be a prompt for the cs 5.5 serial serial number.  once that's done, the number will be recognized as an upgrade and the user will be prompted for the qualifying upgrade's serial number (cs4 in this case).  it's at that point the user us likely  (but not certainly, as far as i know) to encounter a problem.

you could test yourself, before transferring, by deactivating any current activations (after updating os and browser security settings), and trying a new install.

Toss your 15-year-old installation disks in the recycle bin & call it a day.

1) The activation servers no longer exist.

2) The license can't be transferred on End of Life products.

3) Most modern computers can't support 15-year-old software.

The time to sell/transfer CS4 was about 10 years ago. It's useless now.
