Updating programs while working

New Here ,
Nov 12, 2019 Nov 12, 2019

Why would my programs update from the 2019 version to the 2020 version while I am using the program?

I was working on a customers design when my 2019 CC version of InDesign went unresponsive and I lost what was not previously saved. When reopening the file it opened in the newly installed 2020 CC version of InDesign (which was not previously on my computer) and the 2019 version is now nowhere to be found.

Why would they force updates and remove the other program while it is in use with no warning? This seems like a horrible idea. Am I the only one having this issue and how do I make it stop? The same thing happened yesterday with Illustrator.

USExpress, what type of Creative Cloud membership are you using on your work computer?  If you have an individual membership then see https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/update-app.html for steps you can take to manage the updates that are available.

Thank you. These setting are set to auto update. I can turn that off and it will resolve the problem (as long as I remember to update manually) but the check box for automatic removal of the older version of the application is not checked. Why does it still shut down the old application after updating? If the old application was not removed automatically it would not hinder the ability to continue working in the old program until completing the project you are working on.

USExpress, is the option to keep the older version checked for both InDesign and Illustrator?  What type of Creative Cloud membership do you have?

As Nancy has mentioned, if you are using a Creative Cloud for Team or Enterprise membership, then you will need to work with the Creative Cloud admin who is able to deploy updates and remove old versions, over the network.

If you're on a Teams or Enterprise plan, did you talk to your IT admin about it?
