What does optizer do to print PDF file?

Hello, we are using SQL Server SSRS to produce bills and notices and print in PDF. Sometime it prints without problem but sometime it will stop printing in the middle of the printing. It happens randomly. User has to reprint with optimizer. I wonder what the optimizer really do? Also anyone else has the same issue? Thanks in advance!
