I trying to obtain a serial number for my software based on a coupon Code inside the case of my 4 disc software package. CS4 support by Adobe has ceased so I'm not sure how to proceed.

I think you've left this at least 10 years too late. Are you even still a student? Adobe only support current product; there is now a student-rate subscription to Creative Cloud for about $20/month (first year, year commitment), then $30/month (year commitment).
