I have the adobe ceative suite 5.5 web premium on my computer; not a subscription; I own it.

It comes with bridge, contribute, dreamweaver, etc.

Can I uninstall all BUT the photoshop?

And if I uninstall ALL of it, can I just reinstall the Photoshop part?

thanks  : )

1. Yes, deactivating one CS title usually deactivates them all.

2. Use the Adobe Cleaner tools to remove unwanted Adobe software.

https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/cc-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html

3. Restart computer.

4. Insert disk, install Photoshop.

5. Restart computer.

I can't believe what I just did!

I thought I'd try it; so I did the checking of the boxes wrong; argghhhhh; and uninstalled photoshop ONLY! instead of everything else.

now how do I get JUST photoshop back?

and when I 'deactivated'; I went into Dreamweaver and deactivated; that works for all of suite, correct?

thanks

wow; that's a LOT of stuff in there!

ok; I downloaded the tool.

I owned Adobe Creative suite 5.5 web premium (upgraded from 5.0 I think).

I believe I chose #9; I hope that was correct.

It took me a long time to figure out how to get to the logs;

but I guess there's 3 types; I didn't have the first 2 that I could find; no such logs.

Re the third one:  log.gz    I found that.

I forget where I found it now? (win 10)

but I copied and pasted in a word doc also.

But I'm overwhelmed; I lost it after that. I don't know what to do.

Am I supposed to do something with that?

It all appeared to unstall perfectly (even before the cleaner thing); so Im not sure why I'm doing the cleaner thing?

anyway; what should I do next?

should I try to install Photoshop only?

thanks

Hi,

is it safe to now install JUST Photoshop?

here's what log.gz said re ERRORS; if these are real errors??

but again, the entire program uninstalled fine; and I don't see any tracers; so was the cleaner thing still supposed to be done?

is everyone supposed to do that?

so confused

ERROR

"DF037: unable to delete director y C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe. Error 145 The directory is not empty.(Seq 8)"

and when I go there, to HelpCft, I see about 25 folders all starting with 2 lower case letters, then an underscore, then 2 capital letters; ex:

ar_AE

cs_CZ

etc.

should I delete these folders?

again, I'm on at the UNinstall stage; I've uninstalled the entire Adobe Creative Suite 5.0/5.5 web premium pkg.

I see also:

DW063: Command ARKDeleteDirectoryCommand Failed.(Seq 1)

and same thing...then (Seq 3)

and some other 'unable to delete things'

should I ignore those?

thanks!

There is nothing wrong with my computer.

It's less than 2 years old; squeaky clean; I run a tight ship on this computer; only one using it; all updated; frequent scans, plenty of space, ram, etc.

no viruses, malware, etc.

There is no issue with my computer.

my question is relating to uninstalling the suite. (and reinstalling just the photoshop part of the suite)

are these issues common?

should I go in and manually delete those items; the errors?

is it ok/safe to just install Photoshop now?

I even ran Revo Uninstaller, and typed in adobe; all it found was:

adobe acrobat reader DC

adobe connect (should I delete that?)

adobe flash player 32 NPAPI (should I delete that?)

adobe refresh manager

adobe shockwave player 12.3 (should I delete that?

does the connect or flash player or shockwave have anything to do with the web premium suite?

also the Revo Uninstaller, junk files cleaner found nothing regarding Adobe at all.

thanks!  : )

what do you mean 'remove everything old'?

I only want to remove programs associated with the creative suite 5.5 web premium.

does adobe connect have something to do with creative suite 5.5 web premium? if not, then would that mean my computer is otherwise using it?

does adobe flash player 32 NPAPI have something to do with 5.5? or does the typical windows 10 computer use this for something else?

does adobe shockwave player 12.3 have something to do with creative suite 5.5?

or are you referring to something else?

thanks

For security reasons, you should remove all old Adobe files from your system.  That goes for old Flash players, Acrobat Readers, Flex, Air and anything else you come across.

well, I guess I just must be stupid??

is adobe flash player 32 NPAPI  "OLD"??

is adobe shockwave player 12.3  "OLD"?

because when I go into my current FIREFOX add-ons section, one of the things it lists is:

"shockwave Flash 32.0 r0.

so does that mean if I remove this shockwave thing, something in Firefox won't work?

or are you saying remove it and get a different version?

or I don't need it?

or it only applies to the web premium suite I'm trying to delete?

and does my computer 'need' adoble flash player 32 NPAPI??

or is that old and I should get a newer one?

or it has to do with the web premium suite I'm deleting?

thanks

The major browsers have all ended support for NAPI plugins like Flash and Shockwave.  And in case you missed the memo, Flash Player reaches end of life in a few months.  So yes, those plugins are old and useless. You can safely get rid of them.

Hi Nancy,

thanks sooo much! I had no idea shockwave and flash were 'old' and bad; I just deleted them.

I also deleted adobe connect (not sure what it is or why I have it).

Now when I go to add/remove programs the only Adobe product I see is:

Adobe Acrobat Reader DC (which I installed on July 6).

I assume I still need that to open and read things?

I did the unisntaller thing again; looked at the logs; saw some things about adobe contribute cs5.1 directory not being empty, so I went to c:\Program Files(x86)\CommonFiles\Adobe\Adobe Contribute CS5.1 and deleted that folder.

I'm assuming that's ok?

So I guess I've done all I can now?

That was an old web premium package I bought years ago that I installed/brought over from my prior computer.

But I only need/want the Photoshop part of it now.

Is it now safe/ok to just install Photoshop from that suite?

It's old; but if I don't use the Photoshop cs5/5.5 to connect to the internet, it should be ok, correct?

thanks!! : )

so there are still security issues with the adobe reader dc? known ones?

AFAIK, there are no known security issues with the latest version of Acrobat Reader.  But I don't use it because I have full scale Acrobat Pro.

IMO, nobody should use outdated software for security reasons. When in doubt, get rid of it and replace with modern versions.

I agree, noone should use outdated software; but often we don't know it is? (those of use not in the know, like you); I had no idea those Adobe products I deleted were outdated (flash and shockwave); I never received an email or anything. so thanks!

I wish Adobe had products you could buy outright; I don't like or want to do subscriptions for something I wouldn't use that much; too bad they switched everything to that : (

I'll try to load up just the Photoshop cs5/5.5 and have you ever tried to install ONE of a web premium suite? Anything I should be looking for or watch out for?

Also, I originally bought the CS5 and got a free upgrade to 5.5; can I just install one or the other?

thanks

The subscription model is the new normal adopted by many software developers.  Under the old boxed disks system, one had to wait 18 months or more for security updates to address issues with newer operating systems.  Under the subscription model, regular updates are released every few months ensuring your software remains compatible with the latest OSs.

Install the upgrade to CS5.5 and when prompted, enter the qualifying product's (CS5) serial number.  However, I'm not sure if CS5 updates are still available as Creative Suite is on life support.  This could mean your software won't work as expected.  But you already know that CS5 is unsupported.

MODERN OPTIONS:
Photoshop Elements 2020 (approx $100, no subscription needed)
https://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop-elements.html

Creative Cloud Photography Plan (approx $10/month for 1 year subscription)
https://www.adobe.com/creativecloud/photography.html

Hi Nancy,

thank you for telling me about photoshop elements!! I didn't know they sold anything as a one time purchase! I might do that. But a couple of questions first.

1. do you work for Adobe by the way?

2. is it safer to install and use (or does it matter) my old Adobe Creative suite 5.0 Photoshop (not the whole suite; just the photoshop only) or get the Photoshop Elements 2020? Do either or both access the internet in such a way it doesn't matter?

thanks

1.  I don't work for Adobe. But I've used & tested Adobe products for a long time.

2. Photoshop Elements 2020 is easier to use without all the bells & whistles of full scale Photoshop CC.  And while PSE is certainly better than what you have now,  it's not capable of doing everything Photoshop can do.

Suggest you try PSE free for 30 days to see if you like it.

https://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop-elements/download-trial/try.html

3. All software must have Internet access to activate, register and update products.

Hi Nancy,

thanks....

but ignoring what the 2 programs 'have'; is one 'safer' to use than the other (Adobe creative suite 5.0 vs. Photoshop Elements) in terms of the age of Creative Suite 5.0; does that matter at all?

I guess that's partially answered in that you said CS5.0 is not supported anymore; but does that make it a security risk if it's not accessing the internet after installation?

and how long is photoshop elements being supported for? Or in a year or 2 you have to buy another?

thanks : )

I won't tell you CS5 is safe or unsafe to use. Anyone using outdated, unsupported software is taking a risk that the software will fail.  Whether or not it effects the security of your computer is hard to say.  I think that depends on your anti-virus, firewall and how well you safeguard your system.

PSE 2020 is the latest release version.  Unlike CS5, it is certified to run on the latest operating systems.  It is supported right now.  But non-subscription software has a shelf life between 2 - 5 years.  When the time comes, you will have to pay for upgrades if you want them.

I hope that satisfactorily answers all your questions.
