Starting a trial has a message that you need to cancel or it converts to a paid subscription

Sounds like you need the free Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.
You have inadvertently downloaded and subscribed to the similarly named Adobe Acrobat DC instead. That's a subscription product.
When exactly did you subscribe to Acrobat DC? You can cancel for free if you only subscribed within the last 14 days.
When you 'click to agree' to the subscription terms while buying a subscription, that means that you really do need to read BEFORE you buy a subscription... https://www.adobe.com/misc/subscription_terms.html
Acrobat Reader is a free application. No subscription required but it has very limited features. Acrobat Pro DC costs money. And it sounds like that's what you ordered.
Log in to your Adobe Account below to confirm what you ordered.
If you wish to cancel, scroll down to the Contact Adobe button on the same page.
A few days ago. Can someone walk me thru canceling this app
-click the chat icon at the bottom right of the page to open a chat session
-the chat icon looks like '3 dots inside a circle' at the lower right
-type AGENT into the chat window to connect directly to a person rather than the AI
Do be aware that Adobe's staffing is impacted by the virus, so wait times are long
Also: beware of answering anyone who sends you a private message
