Brush strokes disappear but remain visible in the layers tab?

Hi there. I have been struggling with this error now for two days and I can't work out what is happening.

When I use the brush tool, I can draw a line and then all of a sudden my PC will freeze for a few seconds and no longer show on the artboard any of the lines I have drawn. The lines will still appear in the layers and sublayers as visible, but they do not show in the workspace.

I do not have my brush set as basic, I have a custom pressure sensitive brush too. This happens regardless of using a stylus with my wacom art pro, or using a mouse.

I have tried reinstalling and this issue still persists.

Can anyone shed any light for me?
