I would like to buy photoshop by itself. I am eligible for the student discount, but I don't want all the CC apps, just photoshop. Any way I can do this without losing the student discount?

No. There's no possibility to buy only one app with the student discount.
The Students and Teacher plan includes all apps. But you can install only the apps that you're needed.

The $10 per month Photographer plan is such a huge bargain already, there is no extra discount.
