I have been using CS6 apps on my Windows laptop for several years. Recently, I purchased a slightly more capable Windows PC and tried to follow the rules for de-installing from my old laptop and installing the apps on my new PC. However, when I entered the serial number (which my account AND Adobe tech support informed me was correct), I received an error message that the serial number was invalid.
Since it clearly is a valid serial number, I need help in figuring out what to do. Yes, I know Adobe no longer supports CS6, but that's not the point. I simply CANNOT buy another CC licence for this machine, nor do I need all the bells and whistles of the latest apps. I just need to use Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and maybe DreamWeaver -- but only on rare occasions.
Any advice will be welcome.

Odd idea, but did you DE-activate the program on the old computer to be able to use the serial number again?

When you can't deactivate a serial number
BE SURE TO ONLY ASK FOR ACTIVATION SUPPORT TO ADJUST YOUR ACTIVATION COUNT
You may need to PERSIST or TRY AGAIN to find a support agent with more experience
Be sure to remain signed in with your Adobe ID before accessing the link
Do be aware that Adobe's staffing is impacted by the virus, so wait times are long
-make sure that your browser does NOT block ads, scripts, or pop-ups
-you must also allow 'cookies' in your web browser for the link to work
This link will go directly to the chat option
Type "Agent" in the chat box to bypass the chatbot and be connected to a person
-Meaning type in the word Agent without the quote " " marks

Also, did you download the installer that exactly matches your serial number?
-ie, the Master Collection installer will not work with any other Suite or individual program's serial number
