Hi I have a Student edition of CS5, my  HHD failed I still had the original disc which I reloaded onto the new drive, went to the purchase site & used the password from there but it says the password is invalid, Adobe won't help because the product is obsolete but as I only do work for my daughter who is in university I don't  want to have to pay an expensive subscription, it has served us well over the years & as a photo editor its brilliant for our needs

Can anyone help

Perpetually licensed software does not use passwords.

All you need is:

1. original installation disks,

2. a valid, matching serial number,

3. an older operating system that supports outdated CS5.

Note 1:  Creative Suite cannot be used with Catalina.  Catalina ended support for 32-bit apps.

Note 2:  Creative Suite installers won't work on Sierra, High Sierra or Mojave without workarounds. And there is no guarantee outdated software will work on a modern OS for which it was never designed.  Use it at your own risk.

MODERN OPTIONS:
Photoshop Elements 2020 (approx $100, no subscription needed)

Creative Cloud Photography Plan (approx $10/month for 1 year subscription)

There isn't a password for old software. Do you mean you get asked for a password when you try to reinstall from the CD? Or do you mean a serial number? (DO NOT POST THE SERIAL NUMBER!) Warning, scammers may contact you privately pretending to be Adobe staff. Adobe will never send you a private message asking you to email an account that isn't @adobe.com, or use Skype. Adobe never ask you for their password. These scammers want your Adobe info, credit cards, your money and control of your computer, please take care.

When you are installing or updating on a Mac, that is your Mac asking you to prove that you have permission by asking for your COMPUTER password, not your Adobe password
