Every time Adobe updates their software on my computer I have to uninstall everything and reinstall it again. That's twenty minutes two to three times a week, every week. Is this intentional? Is there a version that does not do this? Does anyone make software that will let me edit my images without all the installing and re-installing?
I'm running a 3.2 GHz 4 core processor with 12 GB of RAM. Do I have to get a faster computer?
1. adobe updates cc programs, at most, every 2 months, not 2+/wk and older programs receive no updates after the last (years ago).
2. i've had cc since it began ~10 years ago and never needed to uninstall/reinstall anything.
are you talking about cc programs?
if yes, do you have the cc desktop app?
if yes and yes, does your cc app really show updates available more than once per week?
I thought it was updates doing this because every few days 'Creative Cloud' says there is an update available but when I open it, it does nothing. It's at this point that 'Photoshop' and 'Bridge' stop working (they open and then freeze). Lightroom doesn't function at all so I haven't been able to try it.
I'm assuming the 'cc' you refer to is Creative Cloud; that is what I'm using.
first, reset the cc app:
to reset the cc desktop app, make sure it's in the foreground, then press:
Win: Ctrl + Alt + R
Mac: Cmd + Opt + R
if that fails, try to repair
if that fails go ahead and uninstall/reinstall per the above link
if that fails, do a clean cc install following each applicable step:
uninstall every cc app including preferences, https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/uninstall-remove-app.html
then uninstall the cc desktop app, https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/uninstall-creative-cloud-desktop-app.html
clean your computer of cc files per http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html
check for, and if available, update your os
restart your computer (don't skip this)
reinstall the cc desktop app, https://creative.adobe.com/products/creative-cloud.
if you're unable to install the cc desktop app at this stage, use an administrator account (solution 4 here, https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/creative-cloud-missing-damaged.html)
use the desktop app to install your cc programs/trials
Unfortunately all those solutions may or may not work.
The ACC un-installer tool needs to be updated. Its worthless in its current form.
I just used it because of a hosed ACC update.
After it was done I had to manually go into the windows registry file to manually delete 37 entries form 5 different ACC updates for it to install and run correctly.
Its sad. I was one of those who screamed for a nuclear un-installers 3 years ago. Its apparent nothing has been done to update the app.
All one has to do is open the windows registry file and do a binary entry search using the words "creative cloud" to see what I am talking about.
Do yourself a favor and turn off notifications from CC Desktop app. You don't need to be constantly reminded that incremental (dot) updates are available. Most people don't even install them unless they're having big problems with bugs. Also you can check for updates manually anytime you wish from your CC Desktop app.
