80004005 error - A trappable error

I have just started to get this error on my PC and it has basically crippeld me...

Active Server Pages, ASP 0115 (0x80004005)
A trappable error (C0000005) occurred in an external object. The script cannot continue running.
/website/index.asp

It will happen on an update page first, then eventually spreads right across the site, and it's not just one site, it is all sites - even those I haven't touched for months and months so it would seem to be something to do with my PC rather than the code in the page (unless the code in the page has caused the error and damaged some important file on my PC).

Has anybody got any answers for this? I have searched the net and it seems that there are a great deal of people who have suffered the same thing but have been unable to resolve it! :-(

Basically, I am in deep **** if I can't get this site up and running on my local pc in order to test the pages! I have spent so long building this site and I have nearly completed it and right now I can't even get a basic asp page to load.

Any help is going to be a MASSIVE god send.

Thanks.

Thanks for that Nancy, I know what the problem is now, apparently the sript engine is corrupt!! I have looked on the MS site and I can't find a download that is suitable for my operating system - I am running XP and all the downloads I have found relate to Windows 2000 or NT.

Do you or anybody else know if these would be suitable downloads for me to use?

Thanks.

LATEST
A Windows 2000 download is OK for XP the vast majority of the time.
That being said, I'd be surprised if the latest version of the script engine
doesn't include XP...
