Use the extension from DMX Zone along with their Extension Manager (both are free).

Why will Adobe insist on deprecating the bindings panel?  What is their reasoning behind this?

I am sure there are some great wishy washy PR terms, but I would venture that the majority of php users like myself find the mySQLi extensions of Webassist to be very useful indeed. Why is MySQLi being ignored by Dreamweaver?

Excellent questions. Similar to the ones that I asked the Dreamweaver development team a few years back. Their answer was to be patient.

I now use the DMXzone PDO extensions for Dreamweaver. Maybe Adobe can buy them out and reneg on updating them like they did with ADDT from InterAkt.

Wappler, the only real Dreamweaver alternative.

I used DMXzone for over a year, and I am not going to comment on individual companies. I chose to change to MySQLi because of the similarities of coding I was used to gave me the speed of turnaround my clients demand.

The statement on this thread is just appalling...

IMPORTANT:  The deprecated server behaviors code is outdated.  It's not secure and the code won't work on  servers running PHP 7 or higher.  DO NOT USE this tool for current projects.  You should use another extension or learn to code your own in MySQLi (improved) or PDO.

So basically it is telling me that despite me paying every month for the latest versions of their product, Adobe refuses to update an essential tool that is important for a vast majority of Dreamweaver users, instead opting to try and force them to adopt something more suitable to Adobe's expansion/marketing plan? Or, of course, "learning to code your own" - is not having to "code your own" the VERY reason we use Dreamweaver in the first place?

Come on Adobe - A lot of people are using MySQLi bindings, which as far as I am aware is NOT going anywhere, has a lot of documentation, and uses similar code structures to the old methods, making the change easier.

My question is why have Adobe not adopted MySQLi themselves as part of Dreamweaver? And why have they decided to try funnel everyone towards "approved" extensions, which sounds decidedly dodgy to me,

This is no excuse for Dw not updating the old server behaviour code, or for the years when Adobe chose not to invest in Dw to enable them to do so, but -

The old server behaviours are written entirely using javascript, (with the exception of the mm server scripts) and contain over 20,000 lines of code. For the Dw team to update them, (the team is quite small) would mean that absolutly nothing else was updated, and nothing new included for at least one development cycle, possibly two.

As i said, no excuse, as Adobe could expand the team, but Dw has fallen so far behind in so many areas that concentrating just on SB's for one or two years, would put it in the 'don't bother using' class for everything else. Unless more people start to use Dw, then nothing is going to change, the most users can hope for is that the team is slowly converting the old code, for inclusion at some future date. Then of course there is the problem of do they use pdo or mysqli.

In my honest opinion, Dreamweaver has had some nice updates cosmetically, making html coding easier, but to leave alone such a vital component is inexcusable.

I am beginning to wonder if Adobe is actually interested in the website production market really, they seem to put much more effort into graphic design, stock photos etc.

They should support both MySQLi and pdo, and could make extensions for both. They could, but they won't... to even get the Webassist extensions installed is such a hassle... That simple fact alone makes this reek of financially motivated corporate decisions to funnel users into using extensions that benefit Adobe.

If you look at the number of Adobe programs that use html, css and javascript, and must be used with an Adobe hosting, i think you would be surprised. Off hand i can think of 6, and i am sure there are probably more. Then there are the programs that create web content, or assets for use in web sites, but have no support in Dw beyond adding links or complete files/code, even though they could be developed using html, css, javascript.

I'll play the Devil's Advocate for a moment and just say that Extensions have always played a big part in Adobe's products -- going all the way back to early Photoshop.  Some of the great features in modern PS actually began life as 3rd party add-ons.

Fast forward to today, a common lament from current PS users is that the core software has become too burdened with features that slow it down. [Sound familiar?]

IMO, add-ons should remain optional for the people who really want them.  Don't diminish the core product with useless features that the majority of users don't want or need.

The old Server-Behaviors in DW are a perfect example of an extension that was integrated into the core software and   NOT used by the majority of people.   Static web designers never used it and code snobs regarded the SB generated code as atrocious (and it was).   So while SBs appealed to a pocket group, the code itself was going obsolete.  It had to be re-written, line by line, tested and re-tested,  And this was further complicated by the fact that the PHP standards were going through some breakneck changes between versions 4.x, 5.x and 7.  Adobe wanted no part of this daunting project because there was nothing to be gained from it.    So WebAssist and DMX Zone took the challenge and created their own extensions.  If people wanted server behaviors they could get them from a bonafide extension developer whose sole job is to create and maintain extensions.  Problem solved.

In closing I'll just say that the premium extension developers work hard to bring their products to market and then scramble at each upgrade cycle to keep up with Adobe's software changes.   They deserve every dollar they earn.  Incidentally, I don't use the Adobe Add-ons page for anything.   I always go directly to the extension developers websites.

Hi Nancy, thank you for that response, it is a very considered opinion, and you raise some very valid points about extension developers and the core product being the focus.  I agree with you completely also about the extension developers - without them Dreamweaver would not even be half as good as it is!

It is much more difficult to choose to use MySQLi over the DMXzone alternative, and I can;t help but wonder why Adobe are making it so much more difficult to choose one rather than the other?  this is just my opinion, I am just the end user and have no knowledge of anything going on in the background.  I have tried both solutions though, and find that my prior knowledge of php coding allows me to fly through using MySQLi, and struggle using DMX, which just seemed to get more and more complicated for even the simplest tasks, again, just my opinion.

I think three's room for improved cooperation between Adobe engineers and extension makers.  It's a 2 way street though. Both sides have to make the effort.

I like the WebAssist extensions too because they are familiar.   And you do have choices because WebAssist extensions work in DW 2014 and 2015.

I always keep an older DW version along side the current one in case I need it for certain projects.

Understood, but I guess that's my point. when the best option is have to run an older version in order to make a choice that Adobe doesn't seem to want to allow you to make, then one begins to wonder why I am wasting the monthly fee.

I just also want to add that I am using MySQLi - not MySQL - on my new projects, and I am currently retrofitting my old projects too (a task Hercules would baulk at I'm sure!)  so I am not actually creating out of date or unsafe code. I feel it is something Adobe should be supporting, not deliberate trying to strangle.

Ask yourself this.  Why did WebAssist piggyback their add-ons on top of legacy and often buggy server behavior panels extension?   That's like building a house on a melting snowhill.

DMX Zone avoided the problem by building their own panels.   So who is really to blame -- Adobe for improving their product or WebAssist for not building their own panels.

Can't disagree with you, it seems like both have questions to answer there.   On the Adobe side the server behaviors panel should have been updated with MySQLi a long time ago, which would have aided in pushing out MySQL a lot earlier, on the WebAssist side they should not have relied on a part of Dreamweaver that had obviously been neglected.

As an end user I just want a product that works, and a choice I can make

Sorry to reopen this, but -

Do you happen to know if there's a current solution? The current DMXZone Server Connect does not seem to be playing nice with Dreamweaver CC 2017.  😕

The reason for this is only business and keeping customers satisfied is not important for this company. Why should a programmer repeat it every time to create a website? I hope that Adobe will fix this issue.
