Just like to say that DW and Photoshop are really awesome
programs.
Firstly I am using DW CS3 and ADDT and mysql database, using
phpmyadmin with wamp server as localhost, I can also upload to my
server .... but thats not the problem .... just my enviroment
I am trying to create a form for my website that I can upload
an image to a file on my server and automatically store the image
path into my mysql database as well as a text description of the
picture. And display a thumbnail of the image ( which can be
clickable to full size image ...... but that's later.... first
things first) with the description in a dynamic table....... So....
here goes...
So far ......
I can define a new site, create tables in mysql and create a
conection to those tables ... no problem
without ADDT I can create an insert form that is fully
functional which inserts info into my database and display that
information in a dynamic table on another page.........
but......... I cannot get pictures to show up in the table...... I
have read some stuff on the net but can figure it out....... when I
created my listimage.php page I inserted recordset and dynamic
table no problem I click in the image cell of the table ( where I
want my uploaded images to appear) I first delete the
{Recordset1.image} from the cell go to insert image then in the
'select image source' window I change the image source to data and
select the image lightning bolt from the recordset .....I make sure
that the images (that are all already resized to thumbnails that
can easily fit into a table) that I am trying to display are
already in a file in my site root ( just a test using images I
already have .... not uploaded images). I can preview ok
when I then insert the correct path into my insert form.....
it inserts into my database no problem ....... and my listimage
page can display all the other information correctly accept for the
images?
Am I missing something? I have spent hours and hours trying
to figure this out and countless hours on the net trying to find
out any other way to posibly do this
So........ all my time on the net led me to the 'Building an
Image Gallery using Adobe Dreamweaver Developer Toolbox' ...... as
I have already used ADDT to create a user registration and login
system, with not many problems, just a steep learning curve..... I
decided ti give it a try ........... thinking I would be able to
use some of ADDT features to get my job done......
So I am currently trying to complete the Building an Image
Gallery using ADDT tutorial I have followed the tutorial step by
step to the letter ....... many many times....... I downloaded the
files I needed created the database and tables I need no
problem....... I install all the files into my site root.... (
which is a new , empty site created only for the tutorial ) I start
the tutorial I open the 'upload_img page' and follow all the steps
to create the insert form I can finish the wizard no problem
exactly the same as in the tutorial I then can delete the date row
( as in step 6 )
and preview in browser no problem but......... when I get to
step 7 .................
Apply the Upload and Resize Image server behavior to the
generated form from the Application panel > Server Behaviors
> + > Developer Toolbox > File Upload > Upload and
Resize Image. the moment I click on server behaviors DW crashes and
I get the 'Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 has encountered a problem and
needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience' I have started
over and over again and again I have tried it with other sites that
are working 100% and even made new sites from scratch and followed
the tutorial again and again with no luck.....
I have tried to put the curser outside of the form and inside
the form all with the same results crash even if I click into one
of the cells inside the form it crashes Am I doing something
wrong........???/
I am trying really hard to make this work
I am really excited to get this kind of thing up and running
in my site and I feel I am getting close but I keep hitting a wall
I really have spent hours and hours trying to figure this out any
help would really really be much appreciated
While I am here maybe a few more questions
I have been trying to open the ADDT forum for over a week and
nothing happens firefox tries to open the link and cannot open is
the ADDT forum offline? or is there some other problem?
I have some trouble signing in when I click on login i get a
page asking for a nickname and it seems that every nickname that I
choose is already taken....... even really obscure names like....
monkeybum (not that I want that name just checking)...... but I
tried my email and it worked.... is that the nickname I have to use
every time?
I have been all over the web looking for good tutorials and
there are lots but I cannot find exactly what I need
any idea where I can find a DW tutorial that shows how to
create an isert form with file upload...... with insert image into
separate folder and image path into database and how to display
that image in a table ? can DW do this without any handcoding? can
I do all this without using ADDT?
When a file is uploaded from a form I know it can be resized
using ADDT ...... but I don;t really understarnd...... ADDT can
resize the image to fit a certain size box and it can restrict the
file size but ....... is it posible to resize the file size of an
uploaded file using ADDT of DW? so that anyone can upload any size
image file, say over 2mb, and have it reduced in size automatically
by either DW or ADDT? I know that this is a feature of some
websites and I just wondering if it is possible with Dw or ADDT?
I have read some ADDT tutorials on this Adobe site and some
others on guenter-schenk.com which are all good but do you know of
any more sites that have good ADDT tutorials or forums?
One last thing......... I hope.....
When at long last I can get this form working all automated
so that anyone can fill out a form on my site and it appears in a
table with a thumbnail ............ is it also possible to use that
thumbnail to link to a fullsize image on another page.... all
automatically....... basically the same system as any online shop
or dating website?
Any help about any of the above would be realy really
reeaaalllllllly nice
I honestly have been trying to figure all this out for myself
for months i....well a coulpe of years would be closer I have no
friends who are interested in this at all and this forum is my last
hope of solving these problems and getting my sites up and running
all the best to eferyone who reads this
