Can someone tell me why my background color in Dreamweaver shows up on my unpublished page, but does NOT show up after it's actually posted?

I did not. I've never had to do that in the past, so I didn't think I had
to.

well, if the description of the CSS rules is in an external CSS file, and if this file is not present on the server, then necessarily the rendering will not be there.

also as @Nancy OShea points out, if your local site is not defined, you will have a temporary link of type file:\... and so once on the server it will cause a real problem of addressing

If you want a quick answer, post the URL to your online page.

Failing that, it could be many things:

  • An undefined local site folder resulting in bad paths to assets.
  • Invalid code, HTML or CSS.
  • Failure to upload dependant files to the proper location on your server.
  • One or more of the above.

Birnou, thanks for your quick response.

No, I did not publish the css. But I have never had to do that before.

Right now I have bigger problems. I posted another request regarding needing a tutor to help me with signing in to my service provider. I think my site management entries are wrong, and my service provider does not offer support on DW. I'm stuck and willing to pay a freelance tutor. I'm getting various error messages all centered around the ftp entries.

Please don't mix topics.  What's the URL to your site?

That might help me ascertain your other problem as well.

Try uploading your CSS file with FileZilla FTP client.

If it fails to connect, you have a permissions problem at the hosting level.  Contact your hosting provider.

If it does work, then keep using FileZilla to transfer your files.
