Ben - I promise to start a new discussion regarding what is possible once IE9 is dropped, but I thought yourself and Os would be interested in this.

Googles Chromium browser, (pre-beta) now has css grid layouts enabled by default, so only about 2-3 months before this happens in the stable, (release) version.
