If I highlight text, then either cut or copy, then attempt to paste somewhere else in the same document, it doesn't paste anything. It acts like nothing happened when I either type ctrl+v or use Edit<Paste.
The only way it will paste what I just cut/copied is if I cut or copy that same text again. Once I do that, I will be able to paste that same text over and over.
So, it always treats the first cut/copy of a particular snippet as invalid. This happens in any document, even a new one.
Example:
Hello, my name is Mike.
1) I highlight that text above.
2) I cut.
3) I attempt to paste elsewhere in the document.
4) It doesn't paste anything.
5) I go back and undo the cut, then highlight that text again.
6) I attempt to paste. It now works. I can paste that a third time if I choose so.
7) I then cut different text and attempt to paste. It doesn't paste anything. Rinse, repeat.

Which operating system?
Can you copy & paste from other apps?

Windows 7 Professional.
I can copy/paste fine in Word. However, if I copy from Word and paste into Dreamweaver, it's the same issue. I have to go back to Word, copy that exact string of text and paste again into Dreamweaver and it will work. So it appears Dreamweaver is not letting me paste from any app including its own unless I re-copy that text again.

HI Nancy,
Since my Dreamweaver is CS6, I went down to the section on that page you linked to reset preferences for Dreamweaver 2014 and earlier. Windows 7.
I'm stuck on the following step as I don't see a folder within either C:\Users\Main\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Dreamweaver or C:\Users\Main\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Dreamweaver CS6 called "Preferences.":
"Rename the Dreamweaver preferences folder, for example, Dreamweaver CC 2015 folder to Old_Dreamweaver CC 2015.
Note:
The following steps involve editing the Windows registry. Adobe doesn't provide support for editing the registry, which contains critical system and application information. Make sure to back up the registry before editing it. For more information about the registry, see Windows documentation or contact Microsoft."

Actually, I found the solution!
I discovered that it was happening on a website software as well where I would have to copy something twice in order to retain HMTL formatting when pasting. That led me to realize it is not a Dreamweaver-specific issue, so I googled and found this:
https://www.reddit.com/r/excel/comments/2aqcxq/why_do_i_have_to_ctrlc_a_cell_twice_to_get_it_to/
Basically, what was interfering with my clipboard was AnyDesk software, which I had a window open (it's a remote log-in software). Once I closed that window, I was immediately able to copy/paste with no issues.
Thanks for leading me down the path, Nancy!

So for anyone reading this in the future with copy/paste issues in Dreamweaver, first check to see if it's happening in any other programs, such as in Word or Excel and seeing if it retains your formatting when you paste. Example: type something in bold and then copy and paste.
Then check to see what software you have open. It may be a program that is hijacking your clipboard. In my case it was AnyDesk, but it may be some other remote log-in program such as LogMeIn or perhaps Skype that is causing the issue.
