Can't open file with no extension

A file like "error_log" is often found on a server where php is used and there is no way to open it by clicking on it.

Since it does not have an extension, there is no way to add it under file types.

This has been an issue forever and was never implemented or fixed. I am using version 21.1

I can see that file without issue in DW's Files panel.

1. Click the little hamburger menu (3 bar icon) in the upper right of DW's Files window
3. Choose View and make sure there's a checkmark next to "Show Hidden Files"

It's possible that you may also need to turn on Hidden Files at your OS level as well, though in Windows 10 (what I'm using) you don't.

To open the extensionless file once it is shown in the Files window, right click it and choose Open With > Dreamweaver.

I understand but you cannot open it from the remote view because Open with dw is not available, so you 1st have to transfer the file locally and then you can do it.

Sorry, I was sort of zipping through a lot of threads here and kind of misread the original post.

Extensionless files need to be transferred to your local files first, then opened with the Open With > Dreamweaver command.

It's just the way it works.

With DW's intended design (work locally, then transfer) I highly doubt Adobe will ever spend any time changing that functionality, but you could submit a feature request through DW's Help menu.

Go to Help > Submit Bug/Feature Request to post in the Uservoice forum. At least there, the DW Dev Team will see your post, and others will have the opportunity to upvote your idea, giving it a higher chance to make it into a future version.

Error logs are usually ordinary text files.  Rename it "error_log.txt."

I know it's a text file, but you cannot double-click on it and open it or set it as a know extension.

I can open text files with a proper .txt extension in DW.  I do it 2-3 times per day without any problems.
