I was editing my index.HTML file in Dreamweaver 2018 and I got the error "An unknown error occurred while accessing [local file location]" I noticed there was a newer Dreamweaver so I opened Dreamweaver 2019 hoping that would fix the error, sadly it did not. I did spend some time looking for an answer online, but I did not find anything that helped.
Not really sure why this happened, I never had this problem before.
I did look at the permissions and it's set for me to read & write, same with the folder and drive.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for the idea. I did restart after seeing your comment. I commented out a section of code and it saved it, so it worked! I was going to reply, then I stopped and changed some text that I originally needed to do. Tried to save it, but got the same error.
So for a second I thought it worked, but it don't.

I will try to keep it short. I did do a SaveAs to the desktop, that worked. I also opened it in an editor, which I did edit it, but when I saved it my whole computer rebooted. After that my drive (USB flash drive) never popped back up and it would not remount.
So, my guess is the drive went bad and now the drive is broke. But I think I have my answer, a bad drive.
Also, the HTML was a part of a template, that I was working on. So it is not going to be clean code when I do a validation services on it. I did run a validation on it, but there is a list of things I need to fix to clean that up.
Thanks for your help Nancy Oshea

Try running Dreamweaver as administrator, sounds like you're on Windows?
Right click the dreamweaver shortcut > run as administrator
What type of a drive it is it HDD, SSD ?
In Windows explorer > right click the drive > properties > Tools tab > click the 'check' button.

Hi Feasley
OK, had time now to read all posts properly - I see its a USB storage you are trying to save to - it should NOT be a problem saving a file to USB storage, assuming you want/need to to do this for transport of file(s).
Try running Dreamweaver as administrator and check the USB drive for errors in the first instance.

happened to me several times. Then I saw the file I'm trying to save has no date (on windows). Renamed it to backup and downloaded it again. Then it saves ok. Windows probably is loosing this file information sometimes...

Question: I cannot save or open a file in Adobe Dreamweaver?
Answer: I was having trouble with Adobe Dreamweaver and could not save, open, edit, etc. any of the files that I had saved on my Macbook computer. I found the issue and resolved it. Adobe Dreamweaver asks that you have a root folder, if you do not have a root folder then there is no clear connection between your root folder and the local files stored on your laptop. To solve this issue you will want to *manage your sites* and select one that is tied to your local files. From there, you can name it whatever you want! Just don't change the address.
