Hi all,

I have set up my local virtual server, WordPress and everything. It seemed to me everything was working a week ago, and then all of a sudden : Whenever I click a link in Live View on the Home page of my site in Dw, it takes me to the welcom screen of XAMPP.

"Congratulations:
You have successfully installed XAMPP on this system!"

Any idea where that could come from ?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Does the site still function properly when viewing in a browser and localhost URL?

Hello,

Thanks for your reply.

No, the site doesn't work properly in a browser either.

I'm not an expert on local testing environments, so I was hoping someone else would pop in. Just wanted to first rule out DW as the issue. Did you make any changes to the server configuration, or, any of the WP core files?

Well, yes I've changed a few WP files, but only concerning the theme (I think) so I believed that wouldn't be a problem... And I didn't touch the server configuration. I'm too scared to do that, since I've got it working.

Any idea ?
I'm gonna try and fiddle with the files/config to find what it is.

Thanks again.

Hi,

I restarted xampp, apache and mysql. Then I copied over every file from the online site to the local. Still doesn't work.

So the problem doesn't appear to come from Dw, or WP, or even XAMPP ??

Please help me out there.

Thank you,

C&.

OK !

Found it.

It comes from the Permalinks ! You should not use a custom structure, but instead the first one in the list, otherwise it disturbs XAMPP.

Thanks for your help,

Hope this will help someone out there.

That's interesting. Changing the permalink structure anytime after initial setup can produce some unpredictable results in any WP installation. It's predictable to those who know more about what's under the hood in WP than I do. Glad you sorted it out. Will you still be able your preferred structure online?

I was just wondering if since you had to change to the default settings for permalinks on your local testing server, will you keep it the same for the reemote live server?

Sure ! Actually, the permalinks structure was already good on the server.
