Creating a video gallery on a webpage

Hi, I’m looking to create a video gallery on a webpage, same manner as an image gallery, where there would be one main viewing section for a video to play in and thumbnails beneath it to click on to launch different videos. Couldn't see any tutorials on how to do this exactly, the videos are a mix of MP4s and a couple of YouTube links – I’m used to working in the CS5 version of Dreamweaver, so would it be easier to use the newer version of Dreamweaver to do this, and if I do would that mean having to create alternate versions of the MP4 videos for HTML5 coding purposes? There is a version of what I’m looking to do on here https://codecanyon.net/item/html5-video-gallery-with-live-playlist/490139 with a main window and horizontal playlist underneath but would be nice to create it myself, depending on how involved a process it would be?!

Thanks!

You will have to check that the extension supports the latest youTube api, and not an old version. It may not be important to many, but if you use an old api then there is a risk that the features it uses may be dropped in the future and cuse your videos to stop working.

The creators of the extension should be able to give you this information, also i noticed that swf is supported, if you do purchase the extension do not use that option.

The process is not that much different from creating an image gallery, with one very big difference though.

It will not work on smartphones.

Smartphones users will not see anything, as most do not download video's automatically. Also once selected a video will often open in a separate window.

If you do create this, then do not forget to include a poster image for the 'thumbnail', and a short description of the video for smartphone users.

Other than that, the article you link to includes most of the information required, and providing you ensure that you are using the latest api's there is not much else to say, except watch your video quality and download file size, as the option to view HD or even 4k should be available to users depending on the available download speed.

Bit of a newbie reply I know but the latest API's and hoe to check they're being used?

The video quality is pretty straightforward as they're all in HD (1920x1080)

This works well on all platforms BoB | Video Library. Forget the DMXzone stuff as this is not required for the library.

Wappler, the only real Dreamweaver alternative.

$22 seems very reasonable for a script that does everything you want.

For a comparison, Project Seven has a commercial extension (USD $95) for Dreamweaver called Magic Box that can display images or video galleries.  No coding skills required.

I'll have a look at that, thanks Nancy, think I've previously bought one of Project Sevens'  extensions before (a few years back now!) and it was pretty straightforward to use so that might just edge it
