Hi

I last used Dreamweaver around 10 years ago, I only have basic knowledge but managed to get a website up and running with it at the time. Anyway, all these years later I assumed that Dreamweaver would have amazing ready-made templates that can be edited. Unfortunately, using Dreamweaver CC 2017 I haven't found this to be the case, the starter templates are basic and plain. Can I download templates or is that it ?

Thanks to all.

Start with one of the Bootstrap Starter Templates.  You can customize responsive Bootstrap layouts however you wish.

First define your local site folder.  Example:  C:\MyTestSite by going to Site > New Site.

Next, go to File > New > Starter Templates.  Choose one of the Bootstrap Layouts.

After saving your newly created starter layout, DW will create Assets folders for you which can be seen in your Files Panel (F8).

You now have a working starter site to which you can add your own custom styles, scripts, images, backgrounds, colors, Typekit fonts, etc....  There's no limit to what you can do with Bootstrap layouts and a little imagination.

bootstrap is a framework... DW decide to add it to its IDE, so now Bootstrap is in the beast and we have to do with it. Happy or not (I just add this personnal and subjective remark, just because during the prerelease I remember hot threads about the subject...)

well as for anything else there are pros and cons....

so

as you can see, there are alternatives to bootstrap, like Foundation or Skeleton, but they are not integrated in within the IDE, so you wont have any panel to add component, or edit them, ... that mean that you will have to manually handle it, by directly typing code in your pages

I talk about Foundation and Skeleton, but there are many others out there... I just google and find out those links (I did not read them... its just for the example)

hmmmmm . i'm more of a designer than a developer. can i get everyone's opinion on your preferred platform to use If i want to download a template then edit it?

1. download wordpress templates , then edit?

2. download adobe templates (muse/dreamweaver?)

3. another platform i dont knwo about?

I think I will save money in the long run by not using monthly subscriptions (wix, squarespace, etc). Basically I am looking to save time and money. hehe.

No matter what you use, you will require a working knowledge and a good understanding of html and css, (plus possibly javascript or jQuery) to use any framework successfully, plus you can add php/mysql to using wordpress or any other cms that is supported by Dw.

Unless you understand the code behind what you are doing, you would probably be better advised to use Muse.

the question shouldn't be asked that way.... the real question must be firts... what is your aim ?what do you want to do ?

are you planning developping your own web site ? do you want to personalise it as you would draw it with pen and copic ? do you have any specific requirement ?

If you're not willing or able to learn code,  DW will only frustrate you.

If your goal is to showcase your creative work online, look at Adobe Portfolio -- it's free with your Creative Cloud subscription.   You could have a site up & running in less than 30 minutes.  No coding skills required.
