Dreamweaver CC 2017

I have Dreamweaver CC 2017 version. I launched it today and discovered my code box is at the bottom, the "results" from that code is in the middle above the code box.

How do I get the code on the left, the split screen view on the right?

Thanks

Rich

Correct.

You can click the 3 horizontal bar icon in the vertical toolbar on the far left of your screenshot to turn off the gray area that says "Click the + icon to add...", that will at least give you more screen real estate back, but the ruler is currently a permanent fixture of the Live View area.

Go to: View and then look for something like this:

Make sure Live View is unchecked to make it exactly like what you are asking about.  It is all shown in my picture above.

Good luck.

The other thing you might want to try is "Real-Time Preview."  this allows you to view your work in the vbrowser of your choice and any changes you make in the code is instantly reflected in the browser.  This is more reliable than using the DW's Live view or Design View.

Microsoft had this feature way back in 2013 when their Visual Studio was first released.  In Visual Studio, one could make changes in the browser and these changes take effect in the live code and vice versa.  In DW this is still not implemented completely.

See this picture to get an idea what I mean by using the Browser to view your work in Live view:

Ok, I did the view-->Split-->Split Vertically and the view is what I wanted but there is a ruler on the right side that I can't find how to turn off. Plus the entire layout looks funny. Maybe if I figure out how to make it look like it use to I'll be happy but now I am not.

You can't turn the ruler off in Live View (it's part of the visual media query tool).

If you want it gone, you need to switch to Design View.

So you're saying that you can't make it look like it use to look?

John Fritz II,

I clicked the three dots on the far left and could not see what you mentioned in your post.

Nancy O,

Are you using CC 2017? Because your setup is wayyyyyy different than what the default is. Look at my screen shot above and see the difference?

Thanks for trying to help. I'm sure I will get it set up the way that makes me understand it. I'll just have to look online and see what I can find.

Different, yes.  But I'm using 2017 the same as you.  I created and saved a custom workspace based on Developer by dragging and docking panels & toolbars where I want them.

In addition, I'm using a Dark Theme (Preferences > Interface).  And I got a high contrast code color theme from GitHub called RubyBlue.

Yes, I have CC2017 installed (however due to the major javascript bug I cannot use it for production yet).

My workspace has been modified to fit my needs. You can change yours too by grabbing the named tabs of the windows and dragging them to the sides until a highlight appears. Releaseing the tab of the window will then lock it to the application fram, or another window. Once you have them set the way you like, go to Window > Workspace Layout > New Workspace to save it.

The color scheme can be changed under Edit > Preferences > Interface

The button I was talking about was the one that is selected, 4th from the top, on the far left of your screen shot. Not the 3 dot icon (not the more icon), the 3 horizontal bar icon (visual media queries bar).

You can switch to Design View to get rid of the ruler, but there is currently no way to do that in Live View.

Which version did you use before this?  The Live View visual media queries bar has been around for a while.  It's not new.

I have my workspace set up differently but as you can see, in Design view there are no rulers on top.
