If the options are disabled and something is not working you could try delete the user preferences folder and seeing if that helps. This article will help just replace the version number with yours in the instructions: https://helpx.adobe.com/dreamweaver/kb/restore-preferences-dreamweaver-cs4-cs5.html . Or you can just open the file with a text editor outside of DW. As your version is almost 20 years old it is unsupported and features may break over time with newer OS updates.

Hey, thanks for this. I tried to find the entries in the registry but found nothing. What else can I try?

Some thoughts I had on this one...

Do you have your site definition selected from the dropdown menu in the Files window?

I don't recall if MX needed Hidden Items to be turned on at the operating system level, but it may be worth a try if they're not.

I doubt that anyone can remember what Dreamweaver MX2004 was like. To me it sounds like an ancient relic.

So I decided to use new technology to help out, with this result:

Wappler, the only real Dreamweaver alternative.
