Can anyone tell me how to prevent Dreamweaver from automatically changing pathways when I move folders? There are times I want to break links by moving files, but Dreamweaver has started to change the pathway without notifying me. I just want to turn this setting off, so that it never does this.
Thanks,
Although I share @BenPleysier 's opinion, it's true that sometimes we want to move files without having to update the links that connect them to others.
To do this here, we set the file move dialog box in DW's preferences to 'Ask'.

I have been using Dreamweaver for several years and I have only just started having this issue.

What you describe is the Default Preference Setting which is desired by most users to prevent broken links.
1. Edit > Preferences > General.
2. Update links when moving files. SELECT LIST: Always, Never, Prompt.
3. Apply changes.
4. Close Preferences panel.
That said, I concur with @BenPleysier.
If you don't want Dreamweaver to manage links & assets for you, move file

T.L.T.R.: Move the folders outside of Dreamweaver, e.g. the system's file manager.
This is one of the strongest features that Dreamweaver can boast about. Please do not touch!!!

Hi, I don't understand your comment. I have been using Dreamweaver for several years and I have only just started having this issue. Dreamweaver is causing me hours and hours of extra work by automatically changing pathways.
If anyone can assist, I would be grateful. Please don't post if the response is to tell me I am wrong in wanting to do this.

If you don't want Dreamweaver to manage links & assets for you, move files with your computer's operating system (Win File Explorer or Mac Finder). You run less risk of breaking your whole site that way.
Good luck.

Thank you! I have made the change and will see if it works. The setting was set to prompt, however I have never received a prompt. Hopefully this will work.

Does your local site folder reside on your computer's primary hard drive?
If not, try moving it there. Also adjust your Site Definition settings. Site > Manage Sites...
