Dreamweaver will not launch

I'm on Windows 10.  I have the current version of Dreamweaver via Creative Cloud.  I haven't used DW for a few months.  The splash screen comes up and it just hour glasses.

Everything is updated.  I've tried rebooting a couple of times.  There's plenty of RAM and space on the drives.

Any thoughts on how I might resolve this please?

Hi @JohnnyAir,

Thanks for writing to us. Can you please try resetting Dw app preferences by performing the steps mentioned in this KB article and let us know if the issue gets resolved. Based on the outcome, we can further investigate the behavior on your Win 10 machine and try resolving the issue.

Have a pleasant day!

Regards,

Nayan

It looks like it will take about 5 hours Nayan.  Does that sound kinda normal?

@JohnnyAir,

This sometimes happens after a Windows update.

  1. Restart your computer.
  2. Go to Windows Start Menu and right-click on Dreamweaver icon.
  3. Select More > Run as Administrator.

If that fails, then do what @Nayan_Kankariya suggested and Restore Preferences.

Hope that helps.

Thank you.  I tried that but no luck.  Am trying Nayan's solution.  Based on current progress it looks like it will take about 5 hours.

Is there something telling you 5 hours remaining or how are you coming to this conclusion?

In addition to the original KB article posted, can you follow steps in this one to delete the filecache and recreate the user configuration folder ( https://helpx.adobe.com/dreamweaver/kb/troubleshoot-javascript-errors-dreamweaver-cs6-cc.html#:~:tex... ).

Outside of that has anything changed on the computer recently? Normally if that doesn't work, I would say to login as a guest or as a new user on the machine and see whether the issue is isolated to your current user account or DW as a whole.

It took 5+ hours to scan 19857 files.  There was a progress bar fortunately.  It worked.  It's a completely clean install.  I need to reinstall the extensions.

Should I proceed with your further recommendations?

What the heck are you cashing?  I haven't got 19,857 files on my entire computer much less a single website.   Your local site folder can't be that big. That's insane.

That many files sounds like a CMS. Wordpress could have that many with a good amount of plugins and themes installed.

@JohnnyAir - are the site files on your local computer or are they on a network or external drive? DW tends to work best when the files are local as opposed to networking and that could be causing your slowdown.

Yes.  Usually I use Filezilla but occasionally I FTP to a Wordpress site or two.  I inadvertently downloaded all of the WP files at some time while syncing.  I usually only sync with WP-Content directory.  I'll clean that up.  Thanks for the heads-up.

Syncing with a CMS or database-driven site is risky.  Too risky for me.  I never use file sync.

I upload recently modified files from Dreamweaver via Right-click > Select >

I don't have many local files other than what's in the Theme folder.
