DW '17 Lagging with Certain Commands (Mac)

This seems to be a new issue for me. When I use find and replace, hit the save button, check in and check out, DW lags. The drop down menu / right click appears, but when I hover to the appropriate command and click it, nothing happens. It takes a while to complete the task. Or, I end up having to click somewhere else on the page to get rid of the menu and then try again --- sometimes multiple attempts.

The lagging is horrendously terrible. Honestly, I've never worked with something so buggy before. I prefer to use my Windows copy from 2009 over this version

Hopefully someone has a suggestion on how to fix this.

Are you using any of the following to save, open and edit your site -

an external drive such as cloud or usb, editing directly from your remote server, and have you defined your site?

The reason i ask, is that all the above are known to cause performance problems with Dw 2017.

The sites are directly on my hard drive, no external, no cloud, nothing. The site is defined.
