DW 21.2 Build 15523 continually not responding - Windows 10

 

When editing code and then either:

* saving the file or 

* click into a tag and then selecting the full tag in the bar on the properties panel

it goes into 'not responding' for about 5-10 seconds every single time.

 

The previous fix for such issues (as below and path updated for DW 2021)  doesn't seem to be relevant now as the Temp File List  (for DW 2021) only has a single entry whereas on previous versions there was a huge list.

 

1. close DW
2. Go to Registry key press win +R -> type regedit
3. go to \HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Dreamweaver 2021\Temp File List\
delete the Temp File List folder and restart Dreamweaver (before deleting the folder first take backup of the folder, right click on it and select export)

 

This is on top of the most irritating issue ongoing for several years where DW constantly shuts down for no apparent reason, sometimes with the 'crash report' popup and sometimes without.  Quite often when DW has just been opened and NOTHING has been opened or done.

Sometimes it might go a couple of days (woo-hoo) without crashing.

 

This is on a HP workstation with Windows 10 Pro kept up to date and with plenty of ram and resources.

Simple static html/css files, none of which exceed 50kb - there are 1000+ but only a handful are ever open at a time.  No db connections.  No Git connections.  Certainly nothing resource intensive.

I usually restart the PC before using DW which makes not a jot of difference.

 

The crashing I've learnt to live with over the years but the 'not responding' is fairly recent.

 

Any suggestions please?

No FTP connections - this done manually via FileZilla

 

All I'm using DW for is as a code editor in code view only.  Split and Live views are never used.

Which version of Windows 10?  The latest is 21H1.

Do you have the latest Windows updates?

 

Did you try Restoring Preferences?

Hello Nancy - thank you for your response.

 

I'm on Windows 10 Pro - version 20H2.

Checking for updates and yes, there is version 21H1 - updating now.

Will report back as to whether this has resoved the issue.

If not will restore preferences as you suggest.
