I just bought Dreamwaever 8 and installed it .No problem installing it.

But when i try to install any extension it says "Cannot update a file. The extension will not be installed"

I also bought interakt extensions which sofar are useless if i cant install them. And yes i ask them if there is aproblem with dreamweaver 8 and they said it should work.

So i went to the macromedia extensions side downloaded some free once to try if any of those work.
Nope same problem.

Then i tried uninstallimg everthing and installing it again(serveral time now).Still the same.
Downloaded the latest extensions manager .Same problem.

Any help would be appreciated.Dont know where else to look for answers.
Thank you in advance.

Let's see if we can narrow down the problem.

What are your machine specs?
Are you running the Ext. Manager with Dreamweaver open or closed?
Is the EM Version 1.7.240? Or something else?
Have you upgraded Dreamweaver to 8.0.2 yet?
Did you install in the default path?

I have Win XP Professional. I haven't personally tried to run DW8 on Media
Center. Does that have the same server (IIS) that Win XP Pro has?

Found out what was causing it.
The Windows DEP (Data Execution Prevention)somehow got messed up.
Ran a system restore and now its working fine.
Took me 2 days to figure this one out but now its working fine.

I am having the same problem- and with the InterKat extensions. My "manage extensions" is greyed out and I can no longer install (or make work) and new extensions, including InterKat.

how did you fix the DAP ? is there a way besides a system restore?

Before doing that you might try deleting the .mxi and .mxp files in
C:\Program Files\Macromedia\Extension Manager\Configuration\Extensions. That
will remove the Extension Manager's memory of extensions. If that doesn't
work, you can delete the user Configuration folder. Details here:
http://www.tom-muck.com/blog/index.cfm?newsid=53

The latest versions of the Extension Manager do not work very well,
especially if you upgrade or have two versions of DW on your system.

Hi there! I too am having a problem with DW 8 and the Extension Manager. I have only recently installed DW 8,having previously used DW 3, which is no longer on the system. I have never installed any extensions but was looking at maybe downloading and installing some. However, in Dreamweaver Commands menu, Manage Extensions is greyed out, as if Ext. Manager isn't installed, but it is.

What do I do and how can I install an extension? Thank you for any advice!

I have XP Pro SP2 and Dreamweaver isn't installed on C: but on an external HD drive.

Just open up the Extension Manager from the Start Menu or by navigating to
Program Files, or by double-clicking an extension.

I did as you suggested, opened Extension Manager and installed an extension successfully, but on opening DW8, the option to Manage Extensions is still greyed out and I can't see any other way of accessing the extension within DW. Help again please!

If you can open the extension manager from the start menu, you don't need
the Manage Extensions option. Just open from the start menu. Navigate the
dropdown list to DW 8. Find the extension. It should give you instructions
on how to use it. Manage Extensions opens the extension manager, nothing
else.
