I am running around in circles trying to do what I think should be a fairly simple thing... I want to add an extension to DW 2017.
Do I use the extension manager or not? I've tried using it and when installing the extension, get a message that it conflicts with an already installed extension (of the same name). I stop, go check Dreamweaver, Windows Extensions menu, and nothing is there. I'm completely confused and feeling stupid, which I don't do very well.
Can someone please help me?

Adobe no longer makes an Extension Manager that works with the latest DW.
That burden has been picked up by the various Extension developers. If your extension does not come with it's own EM, download the free Extension Manager from DMX Zone below. It works in 2015 and 2017.

And another choice would be:

Nancy appears to have forgotten that we also have an extension manager:
PVII Extension Manager for Adobe Creative Cloud
It works for all CC applications, including Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and InDesign.
Adobe dropped support for its EM in an effort to promote its App Store and extract profit from extension developers, which has been a failure... in the opinion of most people outside Adobe. There is no programmatic reason or excuse for dropping support as the underlying code that powers the old extension manager still exists.

Tried this; while I can see the various extensions in this app, they don't install in the intended CC application (Dreamweaver 2017 in this case). I am going to try uninstalling DW and reinstalling. It certainly seems like spending $600 a year for applications that are tempremental is an increasingly losing proposition.

I couldn't get PVII's EM to work for me in DW 2017 although it worked great with CC 2015. So I downloaded the latest EM from DMX Zone and it worked in DW 2017.
So try them both before you resort to reinstalling DW.

I've tried both... this is one of the most frustrating things I've ever encountered. And I read somewhere that using their own Extension Manager with the "wrong" version of their products could cause the newer products to malfunction.
Then I wondered if maybe I'm looking in the wrong place for the add-in. I "acquired" the Mystic Website Template located at https://creative.adobe.com/addons/products/10501#.WNkxdfkrL4Z . You click acquire and it says it has. Nothing happens. You click on "install trouble," which takes you to the page that tells you to have the CC Desktop app running file filesync on. You look for another way to download it and it tells you to use CC Manager. Of course, CC manager breaks the system for 2017 apps (apparently).
I realize I'm ranting, but this is making me just a bit more than nuts. I'm not a novice computer user, and have been using Adobe's products since Aldus was around. This should simply not be so difficult.

Sorry, I don't use anything from the Adobe Add-ons page. I prefer to get my Extensions directly from the extension developer's web sites to ensure they are compatible with my product version.
Mystic Website Template is a free Add-on that was published in April 2015 so it's unclear if it will even work in CC 2017.

The App store does not work in many, if not most cases. Adobe is lost in incompetence purgatory Our Extension Manager, as well as DMX Zone's is for installing extensions that you download from the developer's site... minus all the Adobe errors and their 30% surcharge.

I don't want to state the obvious but have you checked in the new documents for the template?

This is not a true Dreamweaver Extension.
If you have acquired the template, you will see the instructions to use. There are two files that have been placed on your desktop, namely ReadMe_First.txt and Tutorial.pdf
There are also instruction given on this page https://creative.adobe.com/addons/products/10501#.WN2MR9J96Um

Hi Nancy,
We have thousands of successful installations in place. Our EM uses Adobe's codebase... the same one that is used to install App Store extensions. Our customers have received numerous notices, and it is posted on our home page, that for CC 2017 you need the latest version. It will work fine 🙂

I'm delighted your EM works successfully for other people. I had trouble with PVII's latest EM in CC 2017 on Win10. It prevented me from installing the deprecated server behaviors panel from DMX Zone and Web Assist's MySQLi extension which piggy backs on top of that. However, DMX Zone's latest EM did work for me. That's no reflection on either you or PVI's EMI. I'm just telling you what MY experience was on MY system .
That said, I do use PVII's EM to manage extensions in 2015 and other apps like Photoshop, etc...
Basically, use whatever works on your set-up. Thanks to you guys and DMX Zone, we have choices available to us.
With the unfortunate Add-ons page, it either works or it doesn't .
