Be careful as most, if not all, free web hosts have limitations that may make some of your site unusable, or you may not be able to use all of Dreamweaver's features (ie: the ability to upload your site via FTP, or use of certain scripts/code). There's a reason they free. If you just need to test a site, MAMP/WAMP for a local testing server would be better than signing up for a free account.

I agree with what @Ben M said. You get what you PAY for. Free web hosting won't give you all that you need to run a website.
Free web hosting might be OK for temporary use while you're testing and debugging a new site in development but it's not a practical long-term solution.
You can easily find affordable shared hosting plans that don't cost an arm and a leg. At a minimum, your hosting plan should include email accounts, server maintenance and security updates, SSL certificates, unique IP addresses, C-Panel and 24/7 technical support. See link below.

let's not be generalist, nor caricatural... it all depends on the study project, but in general, on a school project of setting up a website, PHP, MySQL (MariaDB) and FTP are generally required... and that 000 web host does it in an excellent and free way... why deprive yourself ?
let's be clear... I don't have anything to sell, but I have so often come across students in need of disk space at a lower cost... and if sometimes the technical necessities become more demanding, there again serious solutions at a lower cost exist... https://www.kimsufi.com/fr/hosting.xml

I'm going to be building a site for a school project. I've never used Dreamweaver before. So, I have no idea what you mean when you use terms like FTP, MAMP/WAMP. I'm thinking ahead and trying to check things before I get started so I don't end up hitting a dead end during the project. I know most Adobe sotfware is extremely counterintuitive and unnecessarily hard to use, but it's an industry standard with many jobs in my field requiring knowledge of it, so I'm going to learn by doing. I know free websites have limitations, but I'm on a budget and am not building a website for a business.

Schools have very strict security requirements and for good reason. You really should check with the school staff about where to host this project. FREE hosting is not an option a school can use.
FTP = file transfer protocol. That's how files are moved between your computer and the remote hosting server.
If you're just starting out, you're no doubt building static HTML pages. So no local testing server is needed. You can ignore comments about wamp and mamp servers for now.

It's not a website for a school. I'm a student taking classes, so there shouldn't be those issues.

Doesn't your school or instructor have a web space for you to upload files to as part of your course?
You should investigate.

My Apologies, I misunderstood your question. A free website is usually offered by your ISP (Internet Service Provider). This is the mob through which you have your internet plan at home.

I imagine, oh how confusing this whole discussion can be.
Let's start from the beginning, from your initial question. It seems that you are looking for online hosting so that you can test your essays and follow your courses.
Is that what this is all about?
For my part, a large number of students who take courses on the web, in a general way, whether or not they use DW, need an online space, and preferably one that is free, without ads, and that nevertheless allows for most of the basic needs and necessities. (PHP, Database, FTP, ...)
so among the various possibilities that we have at our disposal, as @BenPleysier indicates, see the side of your ISP, you should have access to a space (certainly minimal) but functional, which is joint to your subscription of connection (at least here in France such is the case, i.e https://assistance.free.fr/articles/pages-perso-comment-en-disposer--620 )...
if not, as I shared with you during my first message 000 web Host https://www.000webhost.com/#feature-table proposes a free service of quality, that many students (here in France) have, or still use for their data's work... In ten years of use, I never had, or students, any kind of trouble...
