Fustrating issue when navigating HTML

New Here ,
Oct 05, 2025 Oct 05, 2025

When using split view, I sometimes need to locate another line of code in HTML.  I click where I want to be in HTML by clicking on the web page view where I want to edit. Sometimes when I click on a specific line, Dreamweaver returns me to the HTML code I was editing previously.

One time, it happened four times in a row, I click on one part of the page, web view moves to that part of the page, click on what I want to edit, and dreamweaver returns me to where I was and not what I want to edit.

This has been happening for before and after the last two updates.  Absolutely fustrating

Toggle from LIVE to DESIGN view with shortcut key Ctrl + Shift + F11.

  • LIVE view is best for checking layout and CSS styles.
  • DESIGN is preferred for routine editing and working with Templates & code.

Also ensure that you're working with Error-Free code, denoted by a green checkmark in a circle. See screenshot.

A red X signifies that your code contains errors, which can cause unwanted & unexpected behavior in Dreamweaver.

Hope that helps.

Thank you for your reponse.  However, most in the web site's I've had the issue, I must remain in Live View.
Dreamweaver gives me this message when I add bootstrap component

Therefore I stay in live view, when useing split screen view.

I also work extensively with Bootstrap layouts, and spend 80% of my time in Split CODE/DESIGN view.

There's no express law that says you MUST use Bootstrap in LIVE view.

Use whichever mode works best for the task.

I'm sure that is true, and wish that I could, but I really don't understand how you accomplish the task.  I'm currently creating for example a "What happened in 2024", kind of a blog with photo galleries of events and places.  In design view or split code design view, everything, backgrounds, pictures, etc. are blown way out of proportion, for me design view is simply unusable, unless I'm doing something very wrong in Design view.  Ugh, won't let me attach a vanilla html and styles sheet to demonstrate

=========

Reduce your screen magnification.

View ⇒ Design View Options ⇒ Magnification...

If 100% is too much, try 66% while editing.

Then toggle back to LIVE for checking layout.

Thank you, Nancy,
You would think the default would be 100%, which works for me.  I tried your recommendation to reduce it to 66% and Dreanweaver does not blow things out of proportion.  Then I set the magnification of the design view to 100%, 200%, and 300%, but none of these settings replicated just how blown out of proportion I was experiencing.
I have closed and opened Dreamweaver, and the "massively blown out of proportions" is no longer happening. Go figure!! If it happens again on new pages, I now know how to fix it, thank you.
It's the very reason I stayed away from design view.  Because I like live view so much, I never thought to complain about design view "blown out proportions."  I have no idea why it works now that I've established the magnification settings, but the problem appears to be resolved.
I enjoy creating custom snippets to include entire sections of code. For example, making a section of code for a gallery with placeholder images, titles, subtitles, HTML cards, etc. That is where I have the real issue with Live View.
For example, when I have two rows of placeholder images added to the page with placeholder captions, it is not apparent when clicking on Live view when Dreamweaver takes me to the wrong placeholder image. Sometimes. I can click a location in live view, and it takes me to the top of the page, or more likely, where I was on the page previously, not where I want to edit. Because all the code and images are placeholders, I don't realize I'm in the wrong place. Sorry for the lengthy explanation; I want to convey the live view issue in a way that reflects my frustration.
Bottom line, I hope design view behaves when I'm adding snippets and then changing placeholder code.

I should also point out, I fix all errors as soon as I see them, so when this last happened, it was with an error free page.  Design mode is just not an option because I have a bootstrap Navbar, and a parallax backgrounds.

Yes, I can change screen sizes in design mode, but a page as descibed above in any of the screen sizes just does not look right at all.

I have other HTML editors, but Live View is why I pay the monthly subscription for Dreamweaver.  In my opinion, no other editor is as good as Dreamweaver!  I love that its so close to being a WYSIWYG editor in LIVE mode.  The navigation issue happens more often that I would like.  I'm trying to duplicate and make repeatable the problem by publishing a web page that most likely will have the issue, and then I'll create a walk thru to demonstrate.

I have figured out that this is not a bug with Adobe's Dreamweaver.
It's a feature of using a MAC.  Recently paying more attention to different apps like finder for instance, I noticed the first click when switching between windows, is a click that basically has Mac recognizing that I'm now working in a new window, you have to actually click a second time to let Mac know, hey, I want to do something here in this location in this window.
Worse, I now seen an app jump to the top of the page when switching between apps on the first click.
Therefore, its not a Bug in Dreamweaver.  It's normal behavior on a Mac.

Possibly helpful:  Change from double to single click on a Mac.

Thankyou for the quick response,
It's not a trackpad issue, I'm using an Apple mouse.  I'm also using the latest version of Mac (Tahoe 26.0.1), and I don't see a "single click option".  Not sure that is it anyway, because the one click does work as it switches windows, or apps menu, but does not necessarily clicked at the location you want to be on that first click.

Again, thank you
Joe
