Google analytics php code generates an error message: 'special character must be escaped'. How do I do that?

Using this code from Google which I placed just below the body tag as instructed: <?php include("analyticstracking.php"); ?> generates an error code that says 'special characters must be escaped: [ > ]. How do I do that?
