how to make simple ajax webservice

i want to make simple ajax web service
it gives me error "error 5 the response is not a valid json string"
and this is a tutorial that i followed

Have you installed the adobe dreamweaver developer toolbox ? . I think you need it for the Ajax sripting to work properly. / Displaying data using Ajax.
