How to search dreamweaver design view only

Community Beginner ,
Oct 18, 2018 Oct 18, 2018

I cannot figure this out in DW CC 2018.

In my old 2015 version there was an option to select whether you wanted to search the code or the design.

In the 2018 version it only ever searches the code and I get alt tags, image names, etc when I'm looking for it ONLY on the design view.

How can I just search the design view?

Thanks!

Hit Ctrl + Shift + F (or View > Find & Replace in Files) they split half of the functions out of Ctrl + F in CC2017

Click the odd martini glass icon in the upper right of the Find & Replace dialogue window

Choose Search Text Only

OK. But then how do you search the "whole word"? It's not an option. They really royally screwed up the search function, in my opinion, in the 2018 version.

They screwed it up back in CC2017. 2018 and now 2019 are a continuation of that very poorly thought-out change for change's sake.

I don't know what you mean by "search the whole word".

As far as Find & Replace goes, all of the functionality that was in CC2015 and earlier is still in CC2018 (except for loading and saving queries) they just moved it around and took away some of the automatic selections based on what view had focus, forcing a lot of extra clicking and option-picking.

Hi @Jon,

Thanks for writing to us!

With th elatest version of DW_19.0, we have brought back the functionality of Load and sav query with in DW find and replace advanced dialog.

Ctrl/Cmnd+Shift+F is the shortcut to invoke Advance Find dialog.

Also, for your question, Match whole word will search for exact string. Say you want to search string "Content" and you have this filter "Match whole word" checked. Nw if you start typing "Con" it wont search until you give the exact string "Content" and press enter.

Thanks,

Please see above. The "Match Whole Word" is grayed out and I get results where what I seek is within other results and I just want my specific search to bring specific results. I really wish you'd bring back the search feature of 2015. There it was all on one box, not two different ways of searching and I could be as specific as I want. The new way wastes much of my precious time.

Hi EMS-usa,

I am not sure if you are using DW CC 2019. Because we have got back Load and save query feature in this latest version.

Also, Match whole word will be enabled by default. Please find below snapshot for your reference for DW CC 2019.

And after referring to the snapshot shared by you, you will get the search string high enclosed with in the line containing it. (This used to happen in CC 2015 as well). This way, you will get a clarity on where the search string is exactly present,

Can you please try this once with the latest version.

Also, we have taken your feedback about Find and replace and we will surely work on this to make it more smoother.

Thanks,

Mahak Kudyar

Hello, Selecting "Ignore White Spaces" does not solve my issue. For instance I want to search for our part number 72220 ONLY, but there is no option to search just for that number alone, the option is grayed out, so I get results for 72220-01, 72220-02 etc etc. in many many places, causing me time to look at them all, instead of just giving me the exact results I want.

In my 2015 version, I could do exactly what I wanted, all with the options in ONE search box, not a separate one for the page in which I'm working and then having to go to a separate box to search other pages - and then neither stay opened! so when I have the next search I have to again open the appropriate box.

Also "Ctrl + Shift + F' is a difficult thing to accomplish with one hand, awkward and stretches my fingers too far - hurts. Ctrl +F was fine and had ALL the options in a box that stayed open until I chose to close it. It makes no sense why they changed the entire search function. I wish they'd change it back.

I am unable to update to 2019. How can I get whatever updates there are to be in my version 2018? Thanks

In the meantime, why don't  you revert to the 2015 version for your Find & Replace tasks?

In your CC Desktop App, check the preference box for Show Older Versions.   See screenshot.

Go back to APPS.  Scroll down to the Dreamweaver drop-down button, click on Manage > Other Versions.

Use whichever versions are best suited for the tasks at hand.   I currently have 3 versions installed.   Close one before opening another.

Because I cannot work from two different DW at the same time. I had other issues with that version which is why I got 2018. Only to find you changed so many things making it difficult and more time consuming to use. Why doesn’t adobe bring the good features back??

I don't work for Adobe.  I'm a product user just like you.  I have 3 versions of DW installed, side-by-side  without any problems.  But I can open only 1 version at a time.

Open version A, do a Find & Replace.  Save files.  Close version A.  Open version B.   It's not that complicated.
