I can only launch Dreamweaver from Creative Cloud

I recently updated Dreamweaver, and now it will not launch from my Windows 10 start menu.  It will only launch if I open Creative Cloud and select Open from there. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling multiple times.

When I launch from desktop or start menu, I receive an error saying it won't start because libcef.dll is missing.

Any help?

Did you update or upgrade to a new version?

Which version do you have?  You'll find that under the Help menu > About Dreamweaver.

Which version is your desktop icon pointing to?  You can find that by right clicking and looking at Properties.

Hi Nancy,

I installed on my laptop.  I migrated recently from a desktop, so it's a new install.

2017.5 Release, 9878 Build

Checked shortcut, goes to same version.

If it's a new install, right-click on shortcut icon and select run as administrator.

What happens when you try to launch DW?

Are you seeing anything?

What processes does your Task Manager display?

I am glad you did not find the file, libcef.dll is prone to nasty injections especially coming from non-identified sources.

I suggest you uninstall Dreamweaver, use the Cleaner tool and re-install Dreamweaver. See Use the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems

Hi,

Can you see if your Windows is updated to the latest available version? Also, if this doesn't solve your problem can you please see if the task manager has some Dreamweaver processes running in the background- if yes, please kill them and then try restarting Dw. For a simple cure, please try restarting your computer.

Also you can try uninstalling Creative Cloud, delete the C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Adobe\OOBE directory and reinstall Creative Cloud.

FYI, these DLL error messages can appear during program installation, while a libcef.dll-related software program (eg. Trend Micro Titanium Maximum Security 2012) is running.

Niharika Gupta

Hello Niharika,

No processes running, restarted, still same behavior.

I also uninstalled Dreamweaver again, restarted, reinstalled, same behavior.

I tried to uninstall Creative Cloud, says "Couldn't uninstall Creative Cloud for desktop. You still have Creative Cloud applications installed on your computer that require it."

I'm not running any security software except stock Windows 10.

Any other suggestions?
