Hello,

I need someone to create one or more 100% visually editable Dreamweaver html pages that we could use as template pages moving forward for.

The main page we need converted is:

Home | RailsNW

Also need to know the price for additional pagae conversions.  Depending on the quality and cost of the template pages, we might hand off the entire phase 1 conversion, which would likely exceed twenty pages.

Again, the objective is to reproduce one of more pages from scratch in Dreamweaver friendly HTML code.   As the blended CMS / HTML pages we are currently working with aren't working.

If you have any questions, check out the link above.  As that is a blended HTML / CMS coded page.   What we need are 100% Dreamweaver HTML pages.

Please email me directly, at: [email removed by moderator for your protection]

Thanks,

Thomas Horstmann, Jr.

After considerable input from the community, and my own research I am leaning towards a CMS solution.   But not before verifying Cart32 forms will work within a CMS site?    As I I don't know of any other form based shopping cart with the flexibility provided by Cart32.

If you can't work with code, you probably should NOT be using Dreamweaver or any hands-on code editor for that matter.  There is too much potential for breaking the site and not being able to fix it later.   HTML alone can't DO anything without additional programming and scripts.

A better option might be to hire a developer to build or set-up a proper CMS for you that actually works and does what you need it to do.  Content is managed & edited online through your browser.  No stand alone software or coding skills required.  WordPress is the most ubiquitous CMS platform around but it's not the only one.

Hello Nancy,   your suggestion about me NOT working with Dreamweaver is totally off base.  While I am NOT a coder, Dreamweaver is relatively easy to navigate and work with visually and through the app.   Way easier the CMS systems, which are tetious and limited in their use.     As they are great for widgets, but not a wide range of products like we deal with.    In short, Dreamweaver remains our platform of choice.

Yet, we still need an assistant to help with tweaking code and other minor fixes.

Tom

I'd sooner shoot myself in the foot than allow clients to have direct access to code unless they know how to work with code.  I'm sorry but that would be like handing surgical tools to an 8 yr old and expecting no harm to come of it.  I can't do it especially for an e-commerce site where what you don't know really can come back to bite you.

All CMSs are NOT the same.  If you can't use the CMS you have currently, then find a premium one with more options.  Or hire someone to build you a custom CMS.  Whatever you decide, HTML alone in Dreamweaver will not get the job done.  So don't even go there.

Checking out your site, I wouldn't call that blended. You have a CMS (MotoCMS) which is on a Windows hosted platform. Without seeing the editor, it's difficult to say whether a CMS is actually the issue or if only this particular CMS is the issue. The biggest issue for me CX-wise is that if you click on a link from your home, the template is so drastically different that it feels like you are on another site.

To your ask above about DW-friendly HTML, all HTML is DW-friendly as DW is just a text editor at its core. And it's visual editor (Design View) is grossly out of date, and will make developing a mobile-friendly site nearly impossible. While there is a Live View in DW, it has limitations in editing that require you to recognize some of the code.

Personally speaking, I would recommend first to consider hiring an agency/partner who specializes in the CMS you have chosen as building out templates in an existing platform is always better than starting over. Otherwise, you might be looking at not only a new CMS, but a new host to potentially support other technologies (ie: php). Part of the reason for this is that you have complexities in your site that would make managing this via basic HTML pages alone near-impossible, such as the e-commerce/booking portion of your site.

Hello Ben,

Thanks for taking the time to respond.    In answering your first question, the main page was first created online through moto-cms.   And for the next year I tried repeatedly to repicate the look and feel in Dreamweaver, as I truly love that look.     It is elegant and moving.

But my attempts failed.  So what I am left with is a hybrid index.htm page, and a mess of internal pages of various layouts.     All I need I is a clean html top page similar to the main page which I can use as our template page moving forward.  Preferibly copying and pasting as much ontent as I can from other pages.

Or I just do it the old fasioned way by updating and saving as page by page.    At least that is my plan, as I really do like our main page.  The only serious issue is it was created in moto-cms.   Which isn't a platform I plan on using.

That said, any suggestions for getting that page recoded for HTML or Dreamweaver?

Sincerely,

Tom

Looking at that code from moto-cms, it could be easily replicated in Dreamweaver. What I am seeing is Bootstrap v4.1 ( https://getbootstrap.com/docs/4.1/getting-started/introduction/ ), so if you have the latest version of DW you can likely build this out entirely and just remove the moto classes as the bootstrap classes are still separate.

I think what you are failing to see is that you are not really changing anything by doing what you propose and you would technically still be what you call a hybrid setup. DW templates are basically less efficient includes then doing includes server-side like through a CMS. So basically with a CMS, you have different regions (ie: header, footer, etc.) and then they give you an editor to edit the main content of the page. When you edit in your CMS, you are only editing either the content of the page, or the component (header/footer for example). When you use a DW template, if you make an edit to a component like a header or footer, you are making that change to every page on your site requiring your to modify and re-upload every single page that you are working on. For a small, personal site, this can work. But with a larger site, this becomes very cumbersome and time consuming to be able to reasonably maintain.

I am by no means an expert of Moto CMS, but work in many different CMS platforms and other automation platforms that operate like a CMS, and I suspect is that you have 2 templates in your Moto platform and the subpages are using a different template then your home. You should be able to switch everything to a single template if you want (or define multiple templates/themes/etc), but for that you might need an expert/partner in the MotoCMS world to implement.  And also because your site is already based on Bootstrap which is a very popular framework, it would be easier to move your theme/template to another CMS platform, but as I said, depending on what you choose to go with, could mean a change in your web hosting provider depending on technologies you want to use.

Having done many of these projects before, I would not recommend using DW as a WYSIWYG editor because it's just not reliable anymore for that purpose and because of how frameworks like Bootstrap work. There are implications for mobile and other devices that need to be taken into consideration for the page to be responsive that makes it better to separate the code from the content through the use of a CMS especially for business sites.

What is your biggest complaint about moto cms? Is it the interface, the support? What limitations are you facing?  I think based on those types of responses we can gauge as to what type of CMS may be best suited for your needs or to overcome your challenges.

I'm relieved that you're finally seeing the light. 🙂

Cart32 is NOT the only pup in the petshop though.  There are many PCI compliant shopping carts that can integrate with the right CMS.  Example, WooCommerce on WordPress.
