In today's web world, Homesite's code is grossly outdated, highly insecure and not at all optimised for today's web ecosystem including mobile devices.

Suggest you make things easy for yourself.

Use a modern web authoring tool aimed at non-designers which will work, out of the box, on desktop browsers and mobile devices. You can then enjoy the content creation process.

Adobe Portfolio is one option.

Not possible.  Homesite is long gone and not suitable for making modern web pages.  Sorry.

@PhotoSailor well, the best way is to get a CDRom from Macromedia... Homesite was always present in goodies.

Beside it, you can still find it on archive as https://archive.org/details/homesite_201802

but also on some place like FilePlanet

anyway, you probably will have to run a virtual machine... https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads

As you I was really enjoying all the Allaire approach and visions.

Non-Adobe solutions include Squarespace, Wix and Aptana Studio.

Plenty more out there.

Thank you  for your reply and alternatives, John Waller.

I think is not nostalgia, it's only speed, functionality and simplicity. I want a simple product, I need a simple solution to build it

That said, if you can't work with code, you're much better off using an online site builder like Wix.

Thanks for your response, Nancy OShea. I have tried some of the tools you quote me, such as Visual Studio Code and Sublime text and they did not convince me. I'll try the others. Another possibility is that great product that is Dreamweaver, which I know very little about. I don't know how much it will have grown today, and I prefer something small and simple. Thanks again.

@PhotoSailor,

Which operating system do you have?

Some former users of Adobe Muse have switched to Sparkle App.  I understand the code it generates isn't horrible. Although it's for Mac only.

https://sparkleapp.com/

Another easy to use site builder is Without Code (W/O).

https://www.wocode.com/

It's nostalgia night, obviously! In another thread we get to view a website straight out of the 1970s and now to be reminded of a bit of software from the 90s..........happy days!

Good things arrive in 3s they say...............I'm eagerly awaiting the next 🙂

Being serious l think 'rocket cake' editor would suit you for making simple websites. The code it produces is not pretty but as you won't be going there, what you can't see won't matter, the solution is quite flexible, is able to put together some nice basic presentations and its desktop based.

If it was to output clean code and the UI was updated l think it would be fine for creating your static 10 page website. It can actually do pretty much all you need. It's drag and drop, has a pretty good visual editor and is flexible enough to allow one to use their own css and scripts, google fonts etc

One day maybe a company will come up with a simple drag and drop desktop solution which  creates clean code, ie compiles the css into an orderly file instead of bloated inline, doesnt use any goofy niche workflows, doesnt rely on Bootstrap, etc

I won't even go near these hosted online solutions, of which there are many, because any online solution uses some kind of goofy workflow of their own making.

You are in luck! The freeware version of HomeSite 1.2 is still available here:

https://homesite.neocities.org/

Version 5.5 may be downloaded from the Internet Archive:

https://archive.org/details/homesite_201802

I believe this is an evaluation version.

It's anyone's guess who runs those sites today.  Be careful of untrusted downloads.  Malware & spyware infected software is rampant on the Internet which could put you and your computer at risk for cyber-attack.  Anti-virus software may not detect delayed time bombs that come back to bite you later.

I am sorry Nancy, but archive.org is a VERY well known and trustworthy digital archive of both paper and digital materials. Similar to Wikipedia. I am surprised that you seem unfamiliar with it?

I would not be posting it otherwise.

The other site's download I checked with AntiMalwarebytes and a Virus scanner. Nothing came up.

I know you mean well.  My concern stems from WHO is uploading the content.  No special credentials are required.  Archive.org has a literal Malware Museum of viruses that were distributed to PCs in the 1980s and 1990s.

I'm not saying everything on archive.org contains malware, of course. I have used it myself to find old PDFs.  But the software "museum" increases its cringe factor for me.

we should also be careful with the internet in general, certainly the web is attractive, and fun, but it opens so many doors on the internet that harbors mini spyware programs, worms, and so many other data gobbling algorithm... not only killer virus, or destroyer

I think that someone who knows Homesite, and is looking for an old version, can be somewhere seasoned with this kind of precaution... don't you think?
