I'm have a weirdo problem and i'm not sure how to fix it. I do my best to explain everything.

I notice the past few month some of my web files gone missing from the site root folder, but nothing goes missing from any of my backup files in the project folder.  At first i thought it was the new hard drive i bought so i when back to my old version, but it still happen.  It seems like this happens every time i do a disk repair. Every time i ran it and select fix all problems i notice files where missing.  I figured disk repair was deleting them so i stop doing it.  I also notice the files that where going missing where always files i was recently working on, before i shut down for the night.  I also notice lately when i make back up copy of my website i can't copy the root folder and save it to another area, i get an error.  But i can go in to the root folder and select all the files copy them and save a copy to another folder.

Not not running disrepair work for a few weeks nothing when missing so i was happy, still had the not been able to copy and past the root folder but i was working around that.  But today the hard drive just stop working, windows see it but it keeps telling me it corrupted.  I am currently running a detail disk repair in command line and it deleted some files from my website root folder.

i'm thinking this is Dreamweaver and a recent update or something.  But i can't find anything that may explain it.  Has anyone had this problem before, and know of a solution?

My workflow is very simple and it has served me well for decades.

  1. I hit Ctrl+S every few seconds to save files.   For me, it's an automatic reflex.
  2. Unless there's a program glitch or power outage, I make sure every file is properly saved and closed before I shut down DW.
  3. The few times I've needed it after a power failure, file Recovery  in DW has worked like a charm

Based upon your description of events, I am of the opinion that your hard drive is on its last legs and about to stop functioning.  Go back to using the new hard drive.  Don't run disk repair on the new disk unless it absolutely needs it (which it shouldn't if it's new.)

Let us know if this issue persists.

This started on the new one, so i switch everything to a old one i had (i say old one, but it was not used a lot. the hard drive was used a handful of times, mainly for large files).  I just finish running a tool to scan the problem drive and it pass.  It has not shown the normal signs of a hard drive die, i had a few of those.

Which operating system?

Which version of DW?

When you say files go missing, are you observing this in DW Files Panel or your OS's File Manager?

Just to be clear, I want to understand if the actual files are missing from your hard drive or just from DW site definition.   There's a world of difference between the 2.  If the files are gone, this implies you have a serious hard drive problem.    If the files are not gone from hard drive but not showing in DW, then your site definition is corrupted.

It missing off the hard drive it self.  I 1st notice it in DW, but when i look it up in the drive it self i can see it not there.  I know there nothing wrong physically with the drive as it pass every test i have to run.  Something differently corrupted the drive, and i think it DW.  My problems all start when i saw file go missing from the website i was building, and it was just that one folder that was have a problem.  This problem follow me over 2 hard drives.

I already did a full system scan on all my computers to check for problems and all my computers pass.

I was looking to see if any one else had this happen to them, and how they fix it.  I know in the long run i can save the hard drive and the data on it it will take me some time but i can get it all off.  But if i do not find out the cause of the problem it may just happen again.

The only time I lost a file from DW was when the power went out and I had not saved my work ahead of time.

DW does not erase files unless you specifically and knowingly delete them in which case they should be in your Recycle Bin.

Sorry i'm try to reply to things quickly while i am at work and i been quick with my responses.

I think DW is corrupting some file on the root folder.  I think it has to do with the function that opens up what ever files/tabs you had open when you close out of the program.  What ever files/tabs i had open before i close DW are the ones that give me a problem (I do not all ways close out of each tab, some times just hit the big red X).  Because the next day when i boot up my computer windows tells me it found errors on my hard drive and ask me if i like to fix them.  Some times i hit yes some times i hit no, but when i hit yes i notice after it done what ever files i had open the night before are gone.

I have not seen any other files in my computer go missing, and i have pull the system log in windows to see what files it delete and it shows just those.
