Is Dreamweaver serious!?? My entire code I spent a month on was deleted!!!

WHAT THE H*LL. Yesterday I duplicate a layer, made edits on the new layer, check back on my old layer, made sure everything was just as it was. All okay, so I save, recheck again, everything is fine, so I shut my computer down. Come back today to see EVERYTHING on my old layer completely GONE! WTH man I spent two months on this code and it was NOT easy. This design is impossible to remake again from scratch. I spend over $200 on this Dreamweaver program only to know that it F-CKS everything up, and that is not the last of it. I've been experiencing countless problems with Dreamweaver and you're telling me this program is worth over $200!?? It's nowhere worth that much if it DELETED my entire code! NOW what am I supposed to do!???

So that's it. There's nothing Adobe can do right? So I gave them $239 for them to run away with, right? We can agree on that right?

Nah, we can't agree on that. It's most likely user error that caused your code to be deleted. I'd be more keen to blame it on something you did to cause the issue than to blame Adobe in this scenario.

So this is what Adobe is made of? Huge company, making lot of money off of their programs, and they can't even offer help to clients? This is very true isn't it? Do you work for Adobe?

What is it with you wanting validation for your absolutely wild assumptions? I get it, YOU lost your code. Do you want help trying to restore it or do you just want to come here and vent?

Honestly, what is it with YOU? If you can't answer a question, what the h*ll are you doing here anyway? You're asking if people want help then you're blaming it on that person's fault? Are you f-ing kidding me?

The forums are user to user based. There are very few actual Adobe employees here. Unless a poster has an Adobe logo by their avatar and a STAFF badge in the pop-up when you mouse over their screen name, they're just a software user, like you, not an Adobe rep.

For what it's worth, I have heard of DW doing this in the past (maybe a half dozen or so posts about it over the years), from a system crash while saving a file.

Yeah... I'll just see what I can do. Thanks for being nice about it. I can't believe Adobe doesn't even hire people to aid with software issues. That's ridiculous, they make a lot from their products.

They do, they're just not here in the User to User Forum. You can contact Adobe directly through this page...

Contact Customer Care

You can also get a region specific phone number to call if you Google "Adobe Customer Care".

One thing to note, if you are using a version of DW that's no longer supported (any Creative Suite version) they'll likely hand you back off to the forum to get ideas on how to fix the issue (if there is a fix). CS6 was the last Creative Suite version supported, and that support ended some time ago, along with sales of that version.

Nope, I'm using the latest CC 2017 version. I'm also seeing other errors with this program. I went to the Customer Care after I made this thread. The agent I spoke to told directed me to the forums. I spoke with an agent over chat, and they said there's nothing they can do. I'm just redoing the entire code over then, no point, nothing can be resolved with Adobe.

Unfortunately, if the code was deleted, the code was Deleted.

DW doesn't currently have any kind of versioning system that holds onto old iterations of your pages past any given Save. There's no Restore function for something that was worked on and saved over or lost to corruption/crash at the program level.

If that's what you were asking them for, the only reply they're going to give is "We're sorry, there's nothing we can do. Try the forum, maybe they'll have an idea".

Your description of meticulously going back to ensure things were right repeatedly before shutting down your machine has me curious though. Is this something that's happened to you in the past already with DW? What was your actual workflow (any use of the dependent files bar like Al mentions, or were you working directly on the code of the open document)? Any crashing/freezing of your OS or DW lately (especially on exiting the program)?

Actually, I had occasion to call Adobe support a few weeks ago and in addition to not resolving my issue, both the support person and a recording while I was on hold clearly describe this forum as a place to go to get official Adobe support. They further state that it is manned by Adobe employees. Just saying

Hi everyone,

Apologize for being late to this discussion as I was on vacation yesterday.

I will share your opinion about misleading information at our call centers with people that can address it. I agree that this forum is primarily driven by contributors that aren't employed by Adobe. If you have a case number for your interaction, send it my way.

To the original poster, I am sorry that your issue wasn't resolved. We have heard of a few issues like yours previously on the forum, but we have been unable to reproduce this issue at our end. Like Paula said, the Github integration proposed for a future update should help address such situations more comprehensively.

Thanks,

Preran

Some of the product forums actually do have Adobe Staff around to help people.  Photoshop & Adobe Stock are a couple of examples.  But questions on Dreamweaver and Muse forums are mainly fielded by volunteer product users.  If that's what Adobe considers support, then so be it.   But it's not official tech support which one can only get from via online chat or direct phone calls to Adobe.

I just did a chat with an Adobe employee and he said there was nothing that can be done about it. Apparently a product (Dreamweaver) was made but issues popping up are brushed off.

I called Adobe Support after I made this thread and the forums is where the agent on the phone told me to head to. Adobe needs to start paying people who are resolving problems, what a sh*t company.

Nobody here works for Adobe.  This is a user-to-user forum.  Not Adobe tech support.

I can honestly say I've never lost a file because I save, save, save my work regularly and I have nightly backups online.  If the unthinkable happens, at most I lose one day's work.

When the power went off without warning one day, DW CC 2017 recovered the files I was working on.  But it cannot recover files that were never saved and named in the first place.

If you mistakenly deleted a file or folder from your Files Panel, you can most likely recover it from your Recycle Bin.

I didn't mistakenly delete a file, I duplicated a file and removed the code from the new file. I saved both, rechecked them both in the browser to make sure the old code wasn't deleted and everything was okay. I even double checked. I come back today to see all the code in the old file now gone. Thanks for the reply though

No I am not telling you Dw is worth $200, but did you check your old version did not have the same file name, and that that did not overwrite the changes?

Providing you have not updated to the latest dot 2 version, Dw2017 did not always delete the file recovery back-ups it made. If you are luck enough, (in this case) that your version had that bug, try searching your files for any file beginning with the first three letters of the file name, (with a * wildcard for the rest, plus the .html file extension, (or whatever the file extension was)).

I don't know anything about any updates. The old file still has its same name it's just that the code is gone. I'll try your method though. Thanks for your help, if not I'm just going to write the entire code over. Just a little annoyed there's no way to retrieve edits made from the previous day.
