Learning Site not functioning

New Here ,
Aug 08, 2006 Aug 08, 2006
I have done some fairly simple web development using Dreamweaver MX 2004 (7.0.1) on a Windows XP machine, and am now desperately trying to get Learning Site and CourseBuilder working. Nothing seems to work reliably:
Learning Site doesn't create the frameset that it should, the navigation page (which it will sometimes create and sometimes not) will not load into a browser (Mozilla or IE), the source for each frame is reset to the wrong target (it insists on putting a / in front of the directory or file, and switches it back whenever I correct it), and none of the interactions seem to work.

I am prepared to give this toolset up entirely and try something else, but would like any feedback as to what I am doing wrong here (or just let me know if I have a compatability issue).

Hi Cathy:

In order to help, you need to provide specific details as to what is
happening .. what errors are you getting .. what about the pages is not
working, etc. And a URL to your site would be very helpful.

I haven't used Learning Site, but I have created pages in Coursebuilder
(without frameset) .. the only thing that was difficult was getting the
score to the database .. the interactions in Coursebuilder do work. What is
not working for you?

I have the version for DW8, but it's probably much the same. Perhaps we can
wade through your problems one at a time. URL to your site?

Hi Nancy,
Thanks for the rapid response. I’ve figured out some of the stuff – I had to manually create the frameset, etc., since Learning Site didn’t seem to do it. There’s no site out on the web yet, so I can’t point you directly to anything.
The Coursebuilder interaction that I’ve tried and can’t get to work is the Matching – I defined a multiple to multiple match interaction, but I can’t get the resulting objects to move around on the browser page. I feel as if I’m missing something significant, but can’t find any documentation that really provides an in-depth troubleshooting guide.

I’m building a set of prototype pages/interactions for a site to be deployed in the future, so I’m less concerned at the moment with scoring and tracking. Currently, I just need each component to function normally from the end-user perspective, so that I can present the prototypes to possible business partners. My biggest issue at the moment is unrelated to Learning Site – I want to put some very rudimentary security in place so that I can put all of our projects materials online, but only allow the project team to see them. My host (godaddy.com) claims to provide server support for basic .htaccess security, but I can’t seem to get that to work either.

Perhaps I’m just having early learning curve issues on all of these tasks, but I’ve done .htaccess previously (successfully), so I can’t figure out why I can’t get it to work.

Any help on .htaccess (or any other simply authentication/authorization scheme) or creating CourseBuilder interactions within an existing site would be deeply appreciated. I’m following directions from online help, and from the Wiley ELearning Toolkit book, and so far no luck.

Thanks,
Cathy

I haven't personally tried that type of interaction .. I'll take a stab at
it in a little bit and get back to you. So you can create the many to many
interaction, but it doesn't drag? Interesting.

Yes, I can create the interaction, I see all of the components, they seem to be defined properly, but when I preview them in the browser (either Mozilla or IE) I can't drag (or, of course, drop) the images. I thought that CourseBuilder managed the code for this, but I'm wondering if I have to do something else to get this to work. Any advice would be appreciated.
