Mac Crashes When Using Dreamweaver 5.5

I am having an issue when using Dreamweaver CS 5.5. I use it for a few minutes and then it just crashes my Mac (OS 10.12.3). There is no apparent rhyme or reason why it crashes. It crashes when doing various things in Dreamweaver. I've checked out my Activity Monitor and it's not consuming that much memory. And my Mac only crashes when I'm on Dreamweaver which leads me to believe it's some sort of issue with the program.

I haven't been able to find anyone else having this particular issue as it's the whole computer that crashes and not just the program.

I would appreciate any leads or help in this matter.

Thanks!

Does this happen with all files/sites or just certain ones?

Are you working with clean/valid code? (try running the validator at http://validator.w3.org/nu to get a listing)

It's happening when I work on different websites. Like I said, it doesn't seem to happen at the same time every time. One time I was editing my navigation and went to view it in the Live Viewer and it crashed, the second time (today) I was modifying the CSS and went to click and edit after saving and it crashed.

And my code appears to be clean enough. A few minor errors (i.e., no alt attributes for my images) but I wouldn't think that would cause my whole system to crash.

You're right, the alt attribute error isn't a showstopper for DW, but structural errors can be, it's always best to clean things up before they get too bad.

Have you done any of the usual troubleshooting steps like clearing the program cache, renaming the hidden personal configuration folder or restoring preferences?

Rename Personal Configuration Folder - https://forums.adobe.com/thread/494812

Restore Preferences (CS4-CS6) - https://helpx.adobe.com/dreamweaver/kb/restore-preferences-dreamweaver-cs4-cs5.html

Sorry for the slow response, busy week.

I cleared the program cache and that seemed to work for a couple of days. I get back on it today and it crashed the whole system again. I restored the preferences and went back on. That time, only the program crashed and not the computer.

I feel like I'm inching closer to a solution possibly, but still no permanent fix.

Unfortunately, you may never get it running 100% reliably under 10.12. It's quite a bit removed from the OS version that CS5.5 was designed for...

Lion <-- CS5.5 released
Mountain Lion
Mavericks
Yosemite
El Capitan
Sierra <-- your current OS

In addition to what Jon suggested, you can also try the solutions in this doc to see if they help you.
