MX Kollection 3 no longer compatible with CS3 -

LEGEND ,
Oct 15, 2007 Oct 15, 2007
I just wonder if it's actually not compatible or was is just "turned
off" by Adobe so they could sell the $400 "developer toolbox?"

Of course you don't find out what you've lost until you've spent $500 on
a CS3 upgrade. Of course I can't go back to using an older
version...They got us by the proverbial Balls.

I wonder if a Carpenter has to throw away his/her hammer every time they
come out with a sharper nail?

Sorry, just tired of the constant list of upgrades to products and no
way to predict that expenditure.

Unless you need the new Spry features and enhanced CSS features, there
is no reason why you can't continue using DW8 for years to come...its
the same beast but with a few more bells thrown on. There will always be
people here to help you out in times of need.

Shinny new bells was just too much for me to resist. Adobe knows this.

MX Kollection was indeed not compatible with Dreamweaver CS3, so something had to be done

existing owners of Kollection were eligible for a free upgrade -- and ADDT´s sales price for new customers is approx. the same as they would have paid for MX Kollection

Not compatible but whether they actually designed it that way on
purpose or it just happened, I don't know. It is a bummer to many
who had many Interakt extensions including Kollection.

Every owner of Kollection3 was suppose to have received an email
from Adobe giving them a very limited time to get the toolkit free.
If you never received the email but was an owner, I'd contact Adobe
and see if they would extend the offer to you.

You have to be a serious conspiracy theorist to believe that this was done
on purpose, I think.

I was an Interakt customer with Kollection 3 & I didn't receive an email with the offer of a free or cheaper upgrade - even after chasing them up on the matter & them saying they would have the deal ready in July 07.

One big mess.............they won - I just had to pay the money and paid out again.

All good fun.

Is the Development Toolkit a good replacement of Kollection 3? The Adobe
website doesn't go into much detail about what it includes...all I want
is a list of extensions that it comes with, not just some general blurb
about what it can do. I need specifics...something the Adobe website lacks.

feature-wise it´s identical with Kollection 3.7.1., plus you´ll find the "export recordset as XML" feature in here. No support for the PHP_ADODB (Phakt) server model any longer, as you might have heard already. Did you work with Kollection 3.7.1 ?

I always fancied it, but never bought it. I once got MX Looper for
completing a survey, and think I may have used some other extensions
when I was working at another company.

I have just bought Rob GT's Dynamic RSS Feed generator, only £6, works a
treat...was up and running in minutes. See www.robgt.com for more
information about it.

What we don't know is whether you received the email into your spam bucket
and it got deleted. I do know that they were sent out, not yours
specifically, of course, however.

It would seem to me that it is possible that Adobe's list wasn't all
encompassing and that if a former Kollection customer comes
forward, they should extend the deal. Just my thought on the subject.

I don't remember getting any email either.

It seems as though it's a bit of "trickery" to expect us to jump into
something that we knew NOTHING about. And even if they had sent a
message out, most didn't realize the Kollection was going to expire when
we upgraded to CS3; I didn't.

So, why would I update something that was working fine and replace it
with another product that I knew nothing about? Add to that the fact
that to me, the MX Kollection was new; I've only had it about a year and
a half and only had the extensions a half a year when they said they
"wouldn't support it" any longer.

Even now, there's this fog around what the Toolbox actually is and does
with only a promise that the world will be "better" if we just buy this
new product. To me, promises that it will do EXACTLY what the Kollection
did, is not all that comforting.

And why was our only chance to get an upgrade price limited? Why not
offer a "legitimate offer" of an upgrade to those of us that invested in
this product?

I don't like to have to update so soon but at least I understand the
need to do this.

However, I don't like having to completely toss out a perfectly good
tool and replace it with something that fits better in my brand new
"toolbox." That does bother me.

Don't remember now just how I heard about it, but the first thing
was reading Interakt had been purchased by Adobe - had to know
there would be a competing product. Next after I bought the upgrade
is when I first learned the MXKollection wouldn't work with it. Then
came the adobe email.

There have been several discussions on this and other lists about it.
Yet I'd have to agree that not everyone would have had the opportunity
to hear about it. I'd contact Adobe, have them prove I was on the list
and didn't get an email.

I found out about the discount upgrade but only by looking on the Developer Toolbox page which advised contacting support to find out more. I was sent all round the houses by Adobe from department to department. Finally I was contacted by Adobe support via email and advised that Adobe had changed policy and that I must now contact Interaktonline (now Adobe Romania) to ask for a discount voucher and provide proof of purchase of Kollection.

So to get a discount voucher email contact@interaktonline.com regarding "regarding upgrades for existing
Kollection users" and provide a copy of your invoice. (should be no problem if you have an account on Interaktonline).

I'm not certain, but I believe the issue had to do with the timing of when you last upgrade with interakt. as an aside, when all is said and done, they were a dedicated and responsive group both with products and support.

upgrading may go like this: if you have an older mx kollection, you may be out of luck. that product is going on a year old and was upgraded to kollection. the owners of kollection, on the other hand, should check their interact account. they should find a serial number there which is a product serial number for addt. download the trial version from the adobe website and when it loads, fill in those serial numbers.

although its not perfect, i think this is a reasonable solution on adobe's part. for those that purchased the lastest upgrade only months before the product was taken off the market, addt is available, and even now, without an email confirmation. for those with older versions. either upgrade, or continue to use the older version of dw. its a good product. hope this helps.

I noticed that too but as i posted above, they haven't worked it into
their shopping cart yet.

I think they're listening though. That's a good sign.

I have my code for updating but there's nowhere to upgrade on Adobe.com.

The only option on the Adobe store is the full price windows or mac
version.

I think this whole "upgrade" thing was an afterthought.

Art & Hconnorjr

The upgrade price is plain to see on the shop page for ADDT reached via Dreamweaver item.

If you obtain your upgrade coupon code from Interakt (Adobe Romania) as I described in my previous posting, all you need to do is follow the instructions given to you by Interakt and enter the coupon code into the promotions box when you purchase ADDT. The discount is then applied to your 'basket' - simple!
As regards the posting from Hconnorjr - this is not so, I've upgraded (yesterday) from MX Kollection Standard i.e. not even the Pro version.
