MySite.com Personalization Approach

Hi!

I posted yesterday looking for assistance, but thought I needed to provide a more thorough explanation.

The Dirksen Congressional Center is looking for an application, program, or extension that would allow the creation of "MySite" to our CongressLink Web site. This would allow registered users to manually set preferences and configure the Web site for their interests.

As an example, the MySite.com approach could allow users to select stocks they wanted to watch, the categories of information updates, reports, articles they wanted to view, and when and how they wanted to be notified.

We want this personalization to be automatic, non-intrusive, and perceived as offering a value to the user.

I hope this makes sense. If anyone has any suggestions or recommendations, please let me know. By the way, our Web site has been created using Dreamweaver 8.

Thanks in advance.

You're not really talking about an "extension" I don't think, but more like
another entire section to your site. You're not just wanting to control
display properties (ie, they control how what you publish looks) you're also
wanting to let them control content - which means a databased system that
records and stores, the collates that info when your user logs in.

1. Spec out what you want
2. Build a database to contain that information
3. Build pages to bring in the information from the database and lay your
site out with that.

My answer is the same as yesterday. There isn't a magic extension that will
do this for you. You need to rethink the entire architecture of your web
site.
