OT: Any Thoughts RE: SiteGround vs. Bluehost

Hi, All.

Have a new client who currently is hosting its website on a shared server with GoDaddy but wants to move it to a dedicated server at Bluehost or maybe SiteGround, neither of which I have ever used. I recall past discussions giving an OK for Bluehost but am a little leary of what I've read about SiteGround. Does anyone have any thoughts on the real world pros/cons of either service? All comments are appreciated.

Looks like no one uses them.

All I can say is that I have heard good and very bad reports about both, (but never an excellent). Which one could probably say about 90% of shared hosting plans.

I didn't even look at this thread at first because I assumed it was all about shared hosting, which I have not used in some seven years.

Without having any supporting evidence behind me, I simply would never consider purchasing a dedicated server or VPS from a company that provides mass market shared hosting. I would only consider companies that exclusively offer VPS and dedicated servers.

Thanks, Paula and Rob, for your thoughts. At the end of the day, client decided moving to a dedicated server was not financially feasible and--for the time being--will stick with current service.

I moved to my site to SiteGround from GoDaddy last year, using the free transfer. I have just renewed for another year. Their service is top class.

I am in an unusual position of managing my employer’s site on Bluehost, with my own site on Siteground. I had the opportunity to understand Bluehost’s performance before making the move. Bluehost works for a low traffic, small site, but it is not impressive. Siteground is impressive. So, if to choose from Bluehost and Siteground, Siteground is definitely a preferred choice.
